Penn State Altoona senior outside hitter Jacob Byers picked up his third award of the week on Wednesday afternoon, when the Eastern College Athletic Conference announced that he was their Division III South Region Player of the Week in men's volleyball.
Byers had a big week to help the Lions go 2-1 in non-conference play. In a 3-0 win over Wilkes on Wednesday, he had nine kills, two digs, two solo blocks, and one block assist. In Saturday's 3-1 loss to #14 ranked Eastern Mennonite, he posted 18 kills, three digs, and three solo blocks. Later in the day, as his team defeated Stevenson 3-2, he had 16 kills, four digs, and one solo block. On the week, Jacob totaled 43 kills (3.58 kills per set), seven total blocks (0.58 blocks per set), and nine digs (0.75 digs per set), and he swung at a .329 clip. He also averaged 4.3 points per set for a total of 51.5 points.

Podgorny had a huge weeeknd in NEAC play, as he erupted for 15+ kills in all three matches played over the weekend. For the week, Podgorny averaged 5.0 kills per set and 2.54 digs per set. He also chipped in with two service aces and four total blocks. Podgorny ranks second in the AMCC with 3.68 kills per set on the season and is fourth with 2.11 digs per set.
Downs had a strong weekend to help the Lions go 3-0 and clinch the 2017 AMCC Championship. In Friday's 3-0 win against Hilbert, he matched his season-high kills total with 12. In a 3-1 win over Medaille on Saturday, he again posted 12 kills to go along with six total blocks (two solo blocks, four block assists). In the Lions' 3-0 victory against D'Youville later in the day, he recorded six kills and three total blocks (one solo block, two block assists). On the week, Dan had 30 kills (3.00 kills per set), nine total blocks (0.90 blocks per set), and an attack percentage of .521.
