With the addition of Elmira College and John Carroll University, women's wrestling will become the newest Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship sport, beginning with the 2025-26 academic year.
All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship may select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team. T
The Hiram College women's wrestling team had a strong day at the first ever AMCC Invitational on Saturday inside Hiram's Price Gymnasium, with the team taking down first place in the conference and five different student-athletes winning first place in each of their individual weight classes.
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) is preparing to host the AMCC Women's Wrestling Invitational this weekend at Hiram College. Wrestlers will take to the mats on Saturday morning at 11:00am in Price Gymnasium.
Pineda (117) took fifth place in the 117 bracket. Pineda opened with a 10-0 major decision win over Sabina Alvarez-Prats (McDaniel). After suffering a loss, Pineda tallied back-to-back falls over Yenyia Terry (Elmira) and Melanie Val (Cedar Crest) to get to the fifth-place match. In that match, Pineda notched a 10-0 major decision win over Nuria Kojic (New Jersey City) to take fifth.
Barrios (124) went 3-0 for the Lions in Sunday's Muhlenberg Novice Tournament.
Bentley (110 lbs) highlighted the JCU Duals for the Terriers, as she went 3-0 and picked up her 50th career victory in the first dual against Buffalo State, beating Renata Tumusabire by fall (1:08). The senior's all-time leading win total grew even further in the second dual, too, thanks to a win over John Carroll's Meredith Milligan by fall (0:20). It continues an incredibly successful career for Bentley, who has been with the program since its inception in 2021-22. Between the three duals on Sunday, Bentley scored 18 points for her team.
Pineda (124) went on to win two matches by major decisions after earning a bye in the first round. The first win came against Arianna Gonzalez (Cedar Crest), the second against Alessandra Rodriguez (Muhlenberg). This led her to the 1st place round, in which she lost by a fall against Liliana Zaku-ramos (Felician University) earning her a second place title in the 124-weight class.
Tamayo (207) took 1st place in the 207 bracket, after going 3-0 on the day. She opened the day with a 59 second fall over Fiona Kelly (Buffalo State). She followed with a 1:51 fall over Kai Douglas (Buffalo State). Her final fall came over Hannah Grawn in the first-place match in 2:14.
Chunat (138) went 4-3 this past Sunday at the Princeton Open, which included student-athletes from 19 different institutions at a variety of levels. The junior finished in sixth place for the 138-lb weight class, with her four victories leading the Terriers.
Penn State Altoona athletics announced on Thursday the hiring of Tyshawn White to be the head coach of its NCAA Division III men's and women's wrestling program.
Jumper (207) went 2-2 in Sunday's PA Women's Collegiate State Championships at East Stroudsburg and finished in fifth place in the 207 bracket. Both of her wins were in comeback fashion, as she defeated Waynesburg's Ja'Khia Matthews in the consolation round and later rallied to win against Ursinus' Evette Colon in the fifth-place bout.
