D'YOUVILLE NAMES HANS SCHROEDER AS NEW HEAD MEN'S VOLLEYBALL COACH

D'Youville College has announced the hiring of Hans Schroeder as the new leader of the D'Youville men's volleyball program.

"I am very excited to be in the head position here at D'Youville College for the men's volleyball program," said Schroeder. "I am willing and ready to put in all the necessary hard work to attain our primary goal of becoming a consistent representative for our Conference in the NCAA tournament."

Schroeder brings with him a resume of awards and accolades in his playing career, as well as several years of coaching experience. He has served as an assistant coach for the Spartans in each of the last three seasons, earning the promotion to head coach for the upcoming year. Prior to his time at D'Youville, Hans was an assistant coach at Hilbert College in 2013-14, was a student-assistant for the Nazareth College women's team from 2007-11 and has coached numerous camps and clinics throughout Western New York.

Hans was a standout at Nazareth College where he played from 2009-11. In his career, his team won two North East Collegiate Volleyball Association conference championships and moved on to the NCAA Final Four in each of those years. In 2011, the team won the National Championship.

When it came to individual awards, Schroeder was a standout player on a great team. He was a two-time all-conference selection (2009-11), NECVA Conference Tournament MVP (2009-10), made the Final Four All-Tournament Team (2010), was Final Four MVP (2011) and a First Team All-American (2011).

Following his exceptional collegiate playing career, Schroeder played professional volleyball for several years. He began his pro career playing one season for Filantro Cassarano in Presicce, Italy from 2012-13. He then played in the Premier Volleyball League in 2013 for the WEVA region and finished his career playing for Legion Volleyball Men's Club and Creole Men's Club teams that competed at National Tournaments at the Open/AA level.

With all of his experience, Schroeder knows what it takes to compete at the highest level and how championship teams are built. He plans on implementing a system that will help make D'Youville a contender both in conference and nationally.

"Our staff, players, and coaches know the process it will take to compete with the best and ultimately become a national contender," said Schroeder. "We have a system that will be put into place to ensure a high level of training, practicing, and competing with conference and division opponents."

Above all else, the new leader of the men's volleyball team is grateful for the opportunity and proud to take on a new role within D'Youville athletics.

"I am grateful to Brian Cavanaugh, our Athletic Director, for instilling the trust and confidence in me to bring this program to new heights," he said. "I am looking forward to next season and many more to come!"

Schroeder is a local product as is from Buffalo, NY. He attended Kenmore West High School before going to Nazareth, where he earned his Bachelor's in Business Administration in 2011.
