AMCC ANNOUNCES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR APRIL 5-11, 2021

The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) has announced its Athletes of the Week selections in the sports of men's & women's tennis, baseball, softball, men's volleyball, and men's golf for the period running from April 5-11, 2021.

Men's Volleyball: Hiram OH Tom Supan led the Terriers to their first AMCC men's volleyball conference title. Supan was named to the 2021 AMCC Men's Volleyball All-Tournament Team. He led the Terriers in kills in both tournament matches, while setting a program record with 28 kills in the championship match against Behrend. He also picked up a double-double with 28 kills and 10 digs in the championship match on Saturday afternoon.

Men's Golf: PS-Altoona SO Andrew Ferguson won two more events for the Lions this past week, helping Penn State Altoona golf remain undefeated this season. In Wednesday's Penn State Division III Challenge at Toftrees Golf Course in State College, he shot 76 and won a playoff for first place to rank atop the pack of 26 golfers. In Saturday's Penn State Altoona Spring Invitational at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, Ferguson shot even par with a season-best 72 to place first in a field of 37 golfers. Ferguson finished the week with a 74.0 average in two rounds, two individual titles, and helped Penn State Altoona to a pair of first place finishes.

Softball (Pitcher): La Roche SR Alexa Young went 1-1 on the week while also earning her second career save. In 17.1 innings pitched, Young had 13 strikeouts with only three walks and a 3.63 ERA. Her best performance came in game one against Medaille on April 10th. Young pitched all seven innings, striking out eight batters and giving up just two runs to help the Redhawks to a 9-2 victory.

Softball (Player): La Roche UTIL Ashtin Hoover got her collegiate career off to a hot start in her first four games in a Red Hawk uniform. Hoover recorded nine hits, six RBI, a double, a triple, seven runs and a stolen base while holding an AMCC-best .600 batting average. In a double-header against Pitt-Greensburg, she went 4-for-8 with a double, a triple, two RBIs, four runs scored, and a stolen base. In two conference games against Medaille, Hoover went 5-for7 with three more runs scored and four additional RBIs. 

Baseball (Pitcher): PS-Behrend SO Derrick Shields threw a three-hit complete game shutout in game one against Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday. He fanned eight batters and walked one in to register his third win of the season.  

Baseball (Player): La Roche SR Dylan Urban homered twice in four games last week to help the Redhawks to 4-0 start to their season. Urban recorded eight hits (five of those for extra bases), three doubles, two home-runs, four runs scored and nine RBIs in two doubleheader sweeps over Hilbert and Medaille. He currently has a .444 batting average and a .944 slugging percentage.

Women's Tennis: La Roche SR Rochelle Selzer went 3-1 overall on the week to help the Redhawks clinch a spot in the AMCC postseason. Selzer is a perfect 3-0 a second singles this season.

Men's Tennis: PS-Behrend SR Kyle Thomas helped the Lions secure the No. 3 seed in the AMCC playoffs with a 7-2 win over Altoona. He collected a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles and posted an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles.
