PITT-GREENSBURG WOMEN'S TENNIS SEASON COMES TO END IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

It was an historic season for the Pitt-Greensburg women’s tennis team as they won its second-straight AMCC Regular Season Championship, followed by the Bobcats first AMCC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament Bid.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Pitt-Greensburg women's tennis team will travel to Case Western Reserve University to take part in the program's first ever NCAA Tournament Appearance.

Dr. Jennifer (Rush) Bennett graduated from what was then La Roche College in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Penn State Behrend once again started off the year with several AMCC championships and is in the lead for the AMCC Presidents Cup title after the fall sport season.

All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship may select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team.

Pitt-Greensburg sophomore standout Emily Ruhlman is now a two-time AMCC Player of the year for women’s tennis in the #1 Singles spot.

Emily Goldyn ’19 was a four-year member of the women’s tennis team at Mount Aloysius College. She played in the No. 1 Singles and No. 1 Doubles positions for her entire career.

In a rematch of last year's championship, the Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats avenged their loss with a 5-4 decision over the Penn St. Behrend Lions for their first AMCC title in program history.

No. 1 Pitt-Greensburg and No. 2 Penn State Behrend each picked up 5-1 victories in the AMCC Women's Tennis Semifinals to advance to the championship match Sunday afternoon.

The AMCC women's tennis championship tournament kicks off this Saturday at Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, PA.

Lysiak won all of her matches. Against Thiel College in the sixth singles position, Lysiak won 6-0 and 6-1. With her partner Zea Dutton in the third doubles position, they won 8-7. Against Behrend, in the sixth singles position, Lysiak won her match 6-0 and 6-1. With her partner Emily Jablonski in the third doubles position, they won their match 8-5.

Rossi had to step up due to injuries and went undefeated in AMCC play, leading the Bobcats to at least a share of the regular season title and the team's second straight No. 1 seed in the AMCC Tournament.

Doug Smeltzer enters his fifth year as head coach of the Pitt-Greensburg men’s and women’s tennis teams in 2021.

Mountain went undefeated in two AMCC matchups. She won a flawless singles match at #2 Singles against La Roche, after winning a tight 8-6 match in #1 Doubles. Then on Sunday she contributed two wins in the Mounties' match against Penn State Altoona, with a 6-2, 6-3 win in #2 Singles and an 8-5 win in #1 Doubles.

Ruhlman went undefeated against AMCC opponents Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Behrend. She went 6-1, 6-0 in the No.1 singles spot against Pitt-Bradford before picking up the 6-3, 6-1 victories in the top spot over Behrend. She won both doubles matches 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles position. Ruhlman's hot playing has led the Bobcats to a 3-0 start in conference play.

Jasinski helped the Lions to a 2-0 start to the season. She posted a 2-0 singles record at the No. 1 spot and a 2-0 doubles mark at No. 2. She only gave up four set points in singles action, winning 6-1, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-0.
