PITT-GREENSBURG WOMEN'S TENNIS HEADS TO NCAA TOURNAMENT

PITT-GREENSBURG WOMEN'S TENNIS HEADS TO NCAA TOURNAMENT

On Wednesday afternoon, the Pitt-Greensburg women's tennis team will travel to Case Western Reserve University to take part in the program's first ever NCAA Tournament Appearance. Pitt-Greensburg will be battling Denison in the first round on Thursday. First serve will be at 1 pm.

It was a record setting season for the Bobcats in which the team went 15-4, including the school's first win over a Division II opponent. The team earned many of these wins without its No.1 Singles player and two-time AMCC Player of the Year, Emily Ruhlman, who missed much of the Fall season with a foot injury. Sophomore Abigail Rosman was one of the players that stepped up without Ruhlman. Rosman won 15 singles matches in the No. 3 spot as well as 15 matches in No. 2 doubles spot. Rosman set the Bobcat women's tennis record for doubles wins and combined wins in a season.

On top of the program records, there were many more Bobcats that had a stellar year. Four individuals and one double pairing were named first team all-conference with Ruhlman, Miranda Berkebile, Rosman, Amber Sterrett and the combo of Ruhlman and Rosman all being voted first team. Cathryn Rossi and Isabella Lane were also recognized for their great fall season, being named second team all-conference.

The awards didn't come for the players only. Head coach Doug Smeltzer was named as a Co-Coach of the Year after leading the women's team to its second-straight regular season title and its first AMCC Tournament Title. Smeltzer has resurrected the program with the team earning just one win in 2019, to the team losing just one match in 2020-2021, to finally leading UPG to a program-best year in 2021-2022.

This is Pitt-Greensburg's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019 when the women's soccer team earned an automatic bid after winning the AMCC Tournament.
