PITT-GREENSBURG, PENN ST. BEHREND ADVANCE TO AMCC CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 1 Pitt-Greensburg and No. 2 Penn State Behrend each picked up 5-1 victories in the AMCC Women's Tennis Semifinals to advance to the championship match Sunday afternoon. 

The top-seeded Pitt-Greensburg women's tennis team advanced to the 2021 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship with a 5-1 win over fourth seeded Penn State Altoona in the semifinals this afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club. In doubles play, Cathryn Rossi and Isabella Lane teamed up in the #1 doubles position, and got the Bobcats off to a great start with an 8-0 win. Pitt-Greensburg extended the lead to 2-0 with another 8-0 victory behind the rackets of Abigail Rosman and Amber Sterrett in the #2 match. Penn State Altoona fended off the sweep with an 8-3 win in the third doubles match. The Bobcats earned three wins in singles action to clinch the semifinal victory, leaving the other three singles matches abandoned after securing the win. Rosman picked up the first win, in the #2 spot, by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Sterrett and Mariah Ulery finished off the win and sent Pitt-Greensburg into the championship with two 6-0, 6-0 victories.

In the nightcap, the No. 2 Penn State Behrend women's tennis team defeated No. 3 Medaille 5-1, defeating the Mavericks for the second time this season. Senior Marissa Bowles and Audra Carnes were double winners on the day, picking up wins at both singles and doubles. Bowles and Jada Donatien helped Behrend take a 2-1 lead after an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Sara Howard and Rachel Weber earned the second doubles points at 8-4 in the third spot. Bowles also won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, follwed by Erica Jasinski posting a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 1 singles. Carnes finished the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory to help Behrend advance to the AMCC title match.
 
The Bobcats and Lions return to action tomorrow at 1:30 at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pa to determine the AMCC champion.
