ALFRED STATE WOMEN CLAIM FIRST AMCC SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP

Nazareth College took home the Allegheny Empire Swimming Championship on Saturday evening. The Flyers won three of the six events contested on Saturday. The Flyers also took the Empire 8 Championship while Alfred State College won a tight battle to claim the school's first ever AMCC title.

Abby Miller (Hartwick) won the 1,650 free (18:02.47), Taylor Robey (Nazareth) won the 100 free (51.78), Lauren Serotta (Alfred University) won the 200 back (2:07.55), Gina Grauer (Hartwick) took the 200 breast (2:26.82), and Allie Norwood (Nazareth) won the 3-meter diving competition (470.95). The Nazareth 400 yard free relay team completed the four-day event with a victory.

Nazareth scored 1,758.5 points in the overall standings to finish ahead of 2nd place Hartwick's 1,399.5. In the Empire 8 Standings, the Flyers scored 1,081.5. The AMCC title went down to the final race, the 400 free relay, as Alfred State edged out Penn State Behrend at the end with 547 points. The Lions finished with 542 points.

The Alfred State women's swimming and diving team made school history as the Pioneers won the college's first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship. The results came down to the final event of the four-day competition and the blue & gold edged out Penn State Behrend by five points. The Pioneers held an 11-point lead heading into the final event of the championship and the 400 free relay team of Veronica Boller, Elizabeth Furmanski, Kelsey Lynch, and Hannah Snayczuk finished 7th (4:05.31) in the championship final, while the relay team Mikaela Snayczuk, Alina Kisluk, Payton Armstrong, and Sarah Stevens finished 14th overall after swimming in the consolation final. The finishes were enough to hold on to the lead to claim the title.

Penn State Altoona freshman Grace Dangelo had a stellar week for the Lady Lions, and she was recognized for it when she was awarded with AMCC Women's Swimmer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors. The freshman standout qualified for the awards by being the top point-getter of any AMCC women's swimmer during this week's conference championships. Dangelo's week was highlighted by being involved in setting five new records for the Penn State Altoona women's swimming program. Individually, she set new team records in the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:11.19), 200 Yard I.M. (2:11.92), and 400 Yard I.M. (4:39.10), with her times in the 200 Yard Butterfly and 400 Yard I.M. also being AMCC-wide records in those events. Dangelo was also part of team record-setting times in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:43.48) and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:49.06).

Alfred State SO Leaha Langerman earned Diver of the Year honors after finishing 3rd overall and 1st in the AMCC on the 3m diving board with a score of 274.90
