AMCC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND
The AMCC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament kicks off this weekend as Penn State Behrend has clinched the #1 seed for the tournament championship.
The AMCC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament kicks off this weekend as Penn State Behrend has clinched the #1 seed for the tournament championship. First round games begin this Saturday when #3 Penn State Altoona hosts #6 Alfred State College and #5 La Roche University will travel to #4 Mount Aloysius College. #1 Penn State Behrend and #2 Pitt-Greensburg will each receive first round byes.
With a 8-0 record in conference play, Penn State Behrend enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed. Behrend senior F Trinity Prestash leads the AMCC with 17 goals in league play, including a conference-best six game-winning goals to go along with two assists. Sophomore F Rachel Sickeri ranks first in the AMCC with six assists during conference play while Marlene Andrade has connected on three assists. Senior M Audra Kuzma's six goals during conference play rank second in the AMCC. Junior GK Riley Morningstar leads the league with just one goal against and a 0.13 goals-against average, while her .800 save percentage ranks third.
Pitt-Greensburg enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 7-1 conference record. Leading the Bobcat offense are Riley Gesinski and Sarah Tonkovich, who have score five and four goals, respectively, against AMCC teams this season. Gesinski's six assists in conference play are tops in the league. Senior GK Paige John leads the AMCC with an .836 save percentage against AMCC teams, while ranking second with two goals against and a 0.29 goals-against average.
Penn State Altoona has earned the No. 3 seed with a 5-2-1 record in conference play. Senior F/M Mallorie Smith leads the Lion offense, and ranks second in the AMCC, with six goals in conference play. Taylor Frederick's four assists rank her fourth in the AMCC while Lion GK Adeline Baustert ranks third in the conference with 37 saves a 1.29 goals-against average.
With a 3-4-1 record, Mount Aloysius enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed. Leading the Mountie offense is junior M Jordan Bailey with three goals this season in conference play while junior F Natalie Despot ranks third with five assists. Mountie GK McKenna Meadows has recorded 26 saves and carries a .703 save percentage.
No. 5 La Roche comes into the tournament with a 2-4-2 record. Kiki Nemcek, Alexandria Mecchia and Grace Motuk have each recorded two goals in conference play, with Nemcek and Motuk also adding an assist. Goalkeeper Julianna Hornikel ranks third in the AMCC with a .754 save percentage and her 1.94 goals-against average is fourth-best in the league.
Rounding out the field is No. 6 Alfred State with a 2-4-2 mark in conference play. Sophomore F Karlee Hargather leads the Pioneers, and ranks fourth in the AMCC, with five goals in conference play, while also adding two assists. Madison Kice has contributed two goals in league play for the Pioneers. Goalkeeper Kate Sproul carries a .667 save percentage and 64 saves on the season.
First round games will be played on Saturday, November 2, with the top two seeds receiving byes. The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, November 6, with the championship game on Saturday, November 9. The AMCC champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
