Penn State Behrend 6, Mount Aloysius 0
The No. 22 and top-seeded Penn State Behrend women's soccer team defeated #4 Mount Aloysius College 6-0 in the AMCC semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. Behrend senior Trinity Prestash became the all-time leader in program history in career goals with 66, surpassing Alex Bilka (2013-16). Junior goalkeeper Riley Morningstar tied the record for most shutouts in a season with 11, only needing to make one save on the day. Prestash led with one goal and two assists to break the school record for career goals and help the Lions advance to the AMCC Championship game. Lizzie Hoff tallied her second game-winner with the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Hoff fired a left-footed shot after selling a possible pass to Prestash in the middle for her seventh goal of the season. Lauren Kiser tallied the second goal just 43 seconds after entering the game off a pass from Prestash. Behrend finished with two goals in the first half and four more in the second half. A minute and a half into the second half, Prestash gathered the ball from Hoff to score her 23rd goal and 66th career goal to set the record. Maddie Haggerty had a goal and an assist in the second half, bending a corner kick in for her third goal of the season. The Mounties, who did not take a shot during the regular-season game against the Lions, managed to fire off six shots.
Pitt-Greensburg 2, Penn State Altoona 1
The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Penn State Altoona on Tuesday evening at Spartan Stadium in Hempfield Twp, PA. After conceding an early goal in the ninth minute by the Lions' Mallorie Smith, Pitt-Greensburg responded with a strong second-half performance. Sarah Tonkovich leveled the score in the 74th minute, converting a penalty kick. Just minutes later, Maya Wertelet found the net off an assist from Reese Walker in the 80th minute, giving the Bobcats the lead. Pitt-Greensburg dominated offensively, out shooting Penn State Altoona 20-6 with nine shots on goal. Bobcat goalkeeper Paige John made two crucial saves to secure the win, while Tonkovich and Wertelet each contributed a goal in a determined comeback effort.
The Lions and the Bobcats will meet in the AMCC championship game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Behrend Stadium.
