NO. 6 ROCHESTER EDGES BEHREND WOMEN'S SOCCER IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

The sixth-ranked University of Rochester women's soccer team scored an early first-half goal and held on to defeat Penn State Behrend 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday evening.

The YellowJackets put the pressure on early, getting the first shot by Sarah Martin with 54 seconds gone in the game. At the 39:49 mark in the first half, Claire Grover scored the first goal off a low cross into the box by Sydney Holmes. Rochester managed three more shots in the first half, while the Lions tallied three. The YellowJackets were awarded a penalty kick less than four minutes into the second half. Grover finished the ball to the left lower corner to make it 2-0 for her second goal of the game. Behrend got on the board in the 60th minute off a direct kick from Maddie Hagerty. Hagerty sent the ball in and it bounced in to the far right, lower corner and past Grace Kuropatkin to make it 2-1.

Behrend GK Riley Morningstar made five saves in 90 minutes of work. The Lions finish the season 13-5-2 overall.

ECAC Recap:

The Pitt-Greensburg women's soccer team earned the program's first ECAC win over FDU-Florham on Saturday night, defeating the Devils 3-2. Second Half goals by Logan Jennings and Maya Wertelet propelled the Bobcats. 
 
Pitt-Greensburg was out shot 27 to seven, but only eight to four in shots on goal. Sophomore Hailey Kepner made six saves. Fellow sophomore Megan Hickey led the team with two shots on goal. Freshman Maggie Knorr was the lone Bobcat reserve to get in the match. 
 
The Bobcats will take on the Hawks of Hartford Sunday at 3 PM.
