HERRMANN, RALPH EARN TOP HONORS AS MEN'S SOCCER ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM IS ANNOUNCED
Franciscan University senior forward Leo Herrmann has been named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Year for the third straight year.
Franciscan University senior forward Leo Herrmann has been named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Year for the third straight year. Herrmann led the league in goals (17), points (41), and shots (72), and was fifth in the league in assists (7) during the regular season. He finished the regular season with a .236 shot percentage and was 5-for-8 in penalty kicks, and had six game-winning goals. Herrmann led the Barons to their first-ever playoff win and broke his own single-season records in multiple categories, including points and goals. In league play, Herrmann was third with eight goals and fourth with 18 points, was 1-1 in PKs and was second with three game-winning goals.
Penn State Behrend sophomore goalkeeper Chris Ralph picks up Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was tabbed as the 2017 AMCC Preseason Player of the Year and was a 2017 player of the week honoree (October 30). Ralph finished the regular season with a league-leading eight conference wins, and was first in conference goals-against-average (.25), only giving up two conference goals during the regular season. He also ranked first in shutouts (8), while also ranking 13th in the nation in shutouts. Only five teams, two of which were nationally ranked, scored on him all year. Ralph was a 2016 second team National All-American and First Team Regional All-American.
Newcomer of the Year honors goes to Mount Aloysius College freshman forward Will Funez. Funez tied for the conference lead with nine conference goals and ranked third in the conference with 14 overall goals on the season. The rookie was a dynamic winger/forward who scored eight goals in the Mounties' final five conference games as the team finished second in league standings. Funez also tallied six game-winning goals in the regular season, including the game winner in the Mounties' final four regular season games.
Behrend head coach Dan Perritano has been named AMCC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. Perritano led the Lions to a perfect 9-0 conference regular season record and the top seed in the postseason tournament.
