CRAIG ROOT NAMED HILBERT GOLF COACH

Kara Rehbaum, Hilbert College Interim Athletic Director, is pleased to announce the recent hiring of Craig Root as Hilbert College's newest head golf coach. Root, who brings over 18 years of teaching and golf management experience in the local community, will lead the 2018 Hawks golf program when they open their season in late August.

"We are all excited to welcome Craig and his organizational, teaching and management abilities," said Rehbaum.  "I am confident our current student-athletes will continue to make strides in the Allegheny Mountain Colligate Conference rankings under coach Root's leadership as he understands the commitment it takes to build a competitive golf program."

Since 2000, Root has managed all aspects of an 18-hole golf course and served as a Golf Professional at three different Western New York clubs.  He sandwiched two stints at the Rothland Golf Club (2003-2008 and 2013-2017) around a two-year stop at Dande Farms Golf Course. Root began his career on the links as Assistant Golf Professional at the Glen Oak Golf Club in 2000 and over the last 17 years has coached a Canadian touring pro in addition to over 300 junior golfers.

The Lockport, NY native graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in in general studies from Marshall University.  Root then earned a masters in science degree in Adult Ed.-Counseling from Buffalo State and a second master of arts degree in psychology from Western New Mexico University.
