MEN'S GOLF SET TO TEE OFF SUNDAY FOR AMCC CHAMPIONSHIP

AMCC men's golfers will tee off this Sunday, October 8 at the Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club in Warren, OH to determine the 2017 AMCC men's golf champion. Penn State Behrend has captured the past six titles and will be looking for their ninth overall.

Winning three of eight tournaments this year, including the Pitt-Bradford, La Roche, and Behrend Invitationals, Penn St. Behrend leads the conference with a 308.0 scoring average. The Lions are led by senior Sean Sculley (76.44), freshman Jack Perfett (76.36), and senior Ryan Matlock (77.73), who all rank in the top five in the conference. Sculley, the 2016 AMCC individual medalist, was also the top finisher at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational, while Perfett was the medalist at the Behrend Invitational.

La Roche College, winners of the Mount Aloysius Invitational, ranks second in the AMCC with a 314.57 team average. The Redhawks have been led by the outstanding play of senior Ben Mullins, who is tops in the conference with a 73.57 scoring average and was the individual medalist at the Grove City and Penn State Altoona Invitationals. Senior Tom O'Toole was the individual medalist at the Mount Aloysius Invitational, and is averaging 79.17 on the season. 

With a 317.43 average, Penn State Altoona ranks third in the conference heading into the championship tournament. Freshman Luke Hoffnagle has had an outstanding rookie campaign for the Lions, as he ranks fifth in the AMCC with a 77.38 average.

Pitt-Bradford, with a 323.86 average, ranks fourth in the AMCC and is led by freshman Cary Ignaczak. The rookie leads the Panthers, and is seventh in the AMCC, with a 77.71 average. 

Two-time AMCC Player of the Year (2015 & 2016), Pitt-Greensburg junior Javon Trout, enters the 2017 tournament with a 75.17 scoring average, which ranks him second in the league. Trout was also the individual medalist at the 2015 championship.

The tournament is a two day, 36 hole, stroke play event.  Sunday's first pairings will tee off at 11:00am. Day 1 pairings shall be based on the order of team finish at the previous year’s tournament, with teams Mount Aloysius/Hilbert/D'Youville teeing off first, followed by Pitt-Bradford/Pitt-Greensburg/Medaille at 11:50am, and then Penn St. Behrend/La Roche/Penn St. Altoona at 12:40pm.  

Monday's action will commence at 9:00am, with pairings determined by the Day One results.  The tournament team champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament which will be held May 15-18 in Greensboro, NC.
