PENN ST. ALTOONA WINS BEHREND INVITATIONAL

Penn State Altoona men's golf shot a season-low 313 as a team on Monday to place first in Penn State Behrend's James Bowen Fall Invitational at Lawrence Park Golf Club.

For Penn State Altoona, it marks the first time in the program's 16-year history that it has won the Penn State Behrend Invitational. The finish is also the team's highest of the 2016 season.

La Roche College was the runner-up in the event, which consisted solely of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference schools, by shooting 321 as a team. Penn State Behrend's 'B' team was third with a score of 322, and Behrend's 'A' squad was fourth with 325.

Penn St. Behrend freshman Andy Goss was the individual medalist with a low score of 75. Goss parred 14 holes and birdied another to shoot a 37 on the front and 38 on the back to win the invitational.

Senior Matt Dillon led Penn State Altoona with a season-best score of 76 on the par 72 course. He was the individual runner-up, placing second out of 51 men's golfers on the day. Senior Jared Wood tied for third, shooting 5-over par with a 77 to match his lowest score of the fall. Pitt-Greensburg sophomore Javon Trout, who also shot a 5-over par 77, tied Wood for third place. 

La Roche junior Ben Mullins and freshman Patrick McCall each shot a 78, tying for fifth place.

Altoona freshman Pongthong Thongyai came in seventh place, carding 7-over par with a 79.

Behrend sophomore Noah Kunst and freshman Mark Peters each tied for eighth place with an 80 on the day. Kunst birdied two holes and carded a 40 on the front and back, while Peters birdied one hole to match Kunst (40-40). Leading the second Behrend group, who tallied a 325, were juniors Sean Sculley and Alex Shindledecker, who also carded an 80 to match Kunst and Peters. Sculley fired a 38 on the way out and came back for the final nine to shoot a 42. Shindledecker birdied a hole on the front nine and two more on the back to card a 41-39.
