The Mount Aloysius Mounties enter Saturday's matchup with the D'Youville Spartans in a battle for the final playoff spot for the upcoming AMCC playoffs.
Men's Basketball Game of the Week: Mount Aloysius College @ D'Youville College (February 7, 3:00 PM)
The Mount Aloysius Mounties enter Saturday's matchup with the D'Youville Spartans in a battle for the final playoff spot for the upcoming AMCC playoffs. The Mounties, playing on their home court, defeated the Spartans 76-70 on January 10.
If the Mounties can knock off the Spartans on the road, they will complete a season sweep of D'Youville while gaining a firm hold on the sixth spot in the standings. The Mounties have a balanced attack on the offensive end of the floor as four starters average between 10 and 16 points per game. Senior Tanner Thomas (15.6 ppg, 9.4 rpg) has been a double-double machine this season for the Mounties, while junior Arin Wade (15.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg) has provided an inside-outside threat at the forward position. Junior Dillon Bender (13.5 ppg, 52 made three-point shots - third in the conference) is one of the top three-point shooters in the conference, and senior point guard Nolan Doyle (10.4 ppg, 4.1 apg) is tied for third among all conference players in assists per game.
The D’Youville Men’s Basketball Team is coming off their season sweep of La Roche on Saturday, defeating the Redhawks 77-65. Since their last meeting with Mount Aloysius, D’Youville has gone 4-3 in their last seven games, including an upset win over Pitt-Greensburg last weekend by the score of 96-80. Senior Julian Reed leads the Spartans in scoring with 17.2 ppg and also in rebounds per game with 9.0 and blocks per game with 4.1. Reed is third in the AMCC in scoring, second in rebounding, fourth in FG% and first in blocks (second nationally). Freshman Zach Blask has stepped up in recent games, including a career high 22 points in the team’s win over La Roche. The Spartans are currently 3-1 in their last four road games and have a two-game road streak after their upcoming home games against Medaille and Mount Aloysius. To round out the season, the Spartans will face Penn State-Altoona and Franciscan, teams that D’Youville has previously defeated this season.
