BASEBALL SET TO DEBUT NEUTRAL SITE CHAMPIONSHIP AT JOHNSTOWN'S POINT STADIUM
The AMCC will be debuting its first baseball neutral site championship this week, which will take place at Point Stadium in Johnstown, PA, May 7-10. The tournament will kick off on Wednesday, May 7 at 1:00pm between #3 Pitt-Greensburg and #6 Pitt-Bradford. Game two on Wednesday will feature #4 Hilbert College and #5 Mount Aloysius. #1 Penn State Behrend and #2 Alfred State College each receive first round byes and will begin play on Thursday.
Top seed, and defending AMCC Champions, Penn State Behrend enters the tournament with an 11-3 conference record. The Lions are led offensively by senior infielder Mac Ciocco who boasts a .459 batting average, 62 hits, 40 RBI and 35 runs scored. Fellow senior infielder Daniel Boehme carries a .364 batting average to go along with 35 runs scored and 25 RBI. Junior Silvio Ionadi leads the team with 41 runs, while also tallying 24 RBI and 10 stolen bases. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Bredel leads the conference with a 2.22 ERA and is tied at the top with eight wins while also recording 49 strikeouts.
Alfred State enters the tournament with a 10-4 record and is looking for their first AMCC title. Senior infielder Connor Kiefer has a .333 batting average, including a team-leading 40 runs scored, to go along with 33 RBI, five home runs, and nine stolen bases. Utility player Jordan Hughes ranks second in the conference with seven home runs and 42 RBI. Senior outfielder Tyler Korsky has a .326 batting average with 16 doubles, 35 runs scored and 23 RBI. On the mound, senior Ryan Bailey leads the AMCC with 77 strikeouts, while tallying five wins on the season and a 3.62 ERA.
Also with a 10-4 record in AMCC play is third seed Pitt-Greensburg. Junior OF/P James Domer tops the AMCC with a .475 batting average, while being tied third in the conference with six home runs. Domer has also recorded 44 runs scored and 33 RBI on the season. Junior INF Tommy Smith is just behind Domer with a .437 average, including a team leading 43 RBI, while also connecting on six home runs and scoring 25 runs. On the mound, sophomore Conner Burkey is tied at the top of the conference with eight wins, while ranking second with a 2.56 ERA and third with 55 strikeouts. Burkey leads the nation in NCAA Division III with eight complete games this season.
With a 7-7 AMCC record, Hilbert has earned the #4 seed in this year's tournament. Sophomore OF Joey Haynes leads the Hawk offense, and ranks second in the conference, with a .459 batting average. He scored 32 runs on the season and tallied 18 RBI to go along with 16 stolen bases. Senior DH Jack Duffek carries a .336 batting average to go along with five home runs, eight doubles, 26 RBI and 22 runs scored. Senior Dylan Moorhouse leads the Hawk pitching staff with four wins on the mound, recording 63 strikeouts and a 5.05 ERA.
Also with a 7-7 record in conference play, Mount Aloysius enters as the #5 seed. Two-time AMCC Player of the Year (2022 & 2024) Tyler Quade has a .364 batting average with 10 doubles, two home runs and 37 runs scored, to go along with 28 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Sophomore infielder Owen McDermott carries a .360 batting average with three home runs, 36 RBI and 32 runs scored. Outfielder Brandon Cook has smashed a conference-leading 10 home runs, scoring 40 runs on the season and picking up 36 RBI. Troy Misura has earned five wins on the mound for the Mounties, while Joey DeRubeis has an AMCC-best seven saves.
Rounding out the field is #6 Pitt-Bradford with a 4-10 conference mark. Senior UTIL Maxwell Rogers leads the Panthers with a .371 batting average, recording a team-leading 24 RBI to go along with 15 runs scored and four home runs. Junior P/UTIL Trent Bielak is tied for third in the conference with six home runs, scoring 30 runs and recording 19 RBI. Senior pitcher Shawn Mannering leads the Panther pitching staff, and ranks second in the AMCC, with 56 strikeouts while picking up three wins on the mound.
