BOEHME'S THREE-RUN BLAST HELPS BEHREND SCORE UPSET WIN IN NCAA TOURNEY
A Daniel Boehme three-run home run was the eventual game-winning hit in a 10-4 victory for the Penn State Behrend (29-11-1) baseball team over the host No. 3 Baldwin Wallace University (36-9) in the first game of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Friday afternoon.

A Daniel Boehme three-run home run was the eventual game-winning hit in a 10-4 victory for the Penn State Behrend (29-11-1) baseball team over the host No. 3 Baldwin Wallace University (36-9) in the first game of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament Friday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard first with a four-run bottom of the first, only recording one hit in the inning. Behrend answered in the top of the second with Chase Palmer knocking in Spencer Deitz with a two-out RBI single.

Freshman Dylan Barnes cut the Lions deficit to two (4-2) in the next inning, connecting on a leadoff home run for his fourth of the season. Thomas Nicely knotted the score at four apiece with a two-run single in the top of the fifth.
Behrend starter Colin Bolla settled in after the first inning, setting down 10 in a row but ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. Joe Lang came on in relief and worked out of a first and second one-out jam. Boehme came up in the sixth inning and delivered the big blow for the Lions with his fourth round-tripper of the year. In the top of the seventh, the Lions extended their lead with two more runs. Behrend's victory was capped off by another RBI single from Nicely to make it 10-4 in the eighth.
Bolla pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Lang picked up his second win of the season with 4.2 shutout innings, allowing only one hit with three strikeouts out of the bullpen.
At the plate, Boehme and Nicely each finished with a game-high three hits and three RBIs. Boehme finished a triple short of the cycle. The Lions recorded a baserunner in every inning with all but one Lion tallying a hit on Friday.
The last NCAA Tournament win for Behrend was an 11-1 victory on May 28, 2021, against Rochester. Coming into the regional tournament, the Yellow Jackets were 16-2 on home turf
