BEHREND BASEBALL ADVANCES TO SEMIS; ALFRED STATE, ALTOONA SPLIT

The #2 Penn State Behrend baseball team advances to the AMCC semifinals with a 23-4 win over #7 Pitt-Bradford in the third game of the quarterfinal series on Monday. The Lions will host #3 Mt. Aloysius College on Thursday in a best of three series.

The Lions posted a season-best with 23 runs and 22 hits. Six different players recorded multiple hits, led by seniors Braden Paulinellie and Josh Wagner with four apiece. Paulinellie reached 100 hits for his career, going 4-for-5 with six runs, three RBIs and two walks. Wagner registered six RBIs with a pair of doubles in his four hits. Behrend's best output was in the bottom of the seventh with nine runs on six hits to extend the lead to 21-3, as the Lions scored in all but two innings. Starting pitcher Ryan Weaver collected his fifth win, pitching seven innings and fanning five. Colin Harger and Anthony Slate each managed three hits and a double in the contest.

#4 Alfred State College vs. #5 Penn State Altoona

Alfred State (17-21), the fourth seed in the AMCC Tournament, rolled to an 8-1 win over the Lions in game one. But fifth seed Penn State Altoona (12-14) battled back in game two, using a ninth inning rally to come from behind and grab a 7-6 victory to keep its season afloat. With Monday's split, the teams will square off in the decisive game three on Tuesday, May 11, with the location shifting back to Alfred State's Pioneer Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., and the winner will continue on to the next round of the AMCC Tournament.
