AMCC 25TH ANNIVERSARY DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI SERIES: EMILY NELSON, PITT-GREENSBURG

As a member of the Pitt-Greensburg women’s basketball team, Emily Nelson excelled as a sharp shooter from behind the arc. Nelson ranks first in school history in three-point field goals made with 172 from 2012-2015. She also ranks first in three-point field goals attempted and she is top five in three-point field goal percentage.

For all the success that she had on the court, she may have exceeded it off the court after she graduated from UPG in 2016. As a Psychology major with a minor in Sociology, Nelson really loved her time at Pitt-Greensburg. Nelson also received a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania.

She is the Senior Center Services Director at the Westmoreland Area Agency on Aging. She has been in this position for a year. Nelson credits her time as a student-athlete to helping her achieve the success she has had so early in her professional career. “Being a student-athlete helped me develop the skills of time management, a great work ethic and leadership that have greatly assisted me in obtaining the position I have now,” Nelson said.

The memories that Nelson made as a student-athlete in the AMCC is something that Nelson does not take for granted. “Being a student-athlete made me into the person I am today,” she said.

The Distinguished Alumni Series is part of the AMCC's 25th anniversary where the conference will be recognizing former AMCC student-athletes who have excelled in their area of study. The Distinguished Alumni Series will run every Thursday throughout the academic year.
