AMCC 25TH ANNIVERSARY DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI SERIES: ERIC SCHNIREL, MEDAILLE COLLEGE

Eric Schnirel was a four-year starter for the Medaille College men’s soccer team from 2007-2010. He was part of the team that made it all the way to the NCAA men’s soccer Sweet 16 in 2010. He excelled both on the field, and later on post-graduation.

Schnirel was a key member to the team throughout his four years, being named captain during his senior year. He had a total of 11 goals and 15 assists. He even amassed 56 shots on goal. He was an offensive threat for any team the Mavericks lined up against. His favorite memories from his time as Mav were on the soccer team, and hanging out with his friends.

“We had such a close bond and created a brotherhood on campus,” said Schnirel. “Spending 24/7 with your best friends, and not having too many worries other than beating Penn State Behrend, and wondering what’s for dinner at the Sullivan Center!”

Schnirel originally came to Medaille to play both basketball and soccer. He decided to stick to just soccer, and it proved to be the right choice. His time at Medaille set him up for the success he has had throughout his career.

Schnirel graduated with a degree in Business Administration, then accepted a job at KeyBank working in the mortgage department after graduation. Two years later, he went back to school, this time at Canisius College to get his MBA. From there, he went on to be a financial analyst with Citi Bank. This led him to starting his own Accounting Receivable business. From there, he started Great Lakes Transportation. He is currently the President and CEO.

Great Lakes Transport is one of the fastest growing freight brokerages in the North East. Schnirel is the President, CEO, and serves as the Managing Partner. He has grown his company from just transportation to a Great Lakes Brand. The company now has Great Lakes Real Estate Group and Great Lakes Workers Comp Solutions.

His four years as a Maverick were years he will never forget. When looking back on his time, Schnirel said, “I wouldn’t have traded it for the world.”
