BEHREND BASEBALL INVESTS TIME WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

The Penn State Behrend Lions baseball program participated in its annual commitment with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, November 9 and 16. The baseball program players and coaches provided work on a new home build in Erie.

"This has been an amazing way for us to give back to the Erie community," said head coach Paul Benim. "We are blessed that our baseball program took advantage of a chance to make a difference over a couple weekends in November. We played a small role helping contribute to Habitat for Humanity. They are an organization that does a wonderful job assisting families."

In previous years with Habitat, the baseball program has built storage sheds for new homes, completed roofing, worked on interiors and exteriors of homes, and organized the Habitat warehouse. "Habitat is a great organization that helps a lot of people and families," said senior Daniel Boehme. "It has given our team an opportunity to learn, while also teaching us how important it is to help others."

Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates houses and neighborhoods by providing simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with families in need. Reaching out from Christian roots across denominational, faith, economic and racial lines, Habitat works in partnership with prospective and existing homeowners, volunteers, donors, community organizations and all those who can help reach these goals.

Sophomore Sam Deitz shared, "When I heard we had an opportunity to participate in a Habitat build I was excited. It was a new experience that got us out of our comfort zone to do some good for another family. It is something I will not forget and would love to do again in the future."
