The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and
Allstate Insurance Company today announced the 10 men’s
basketball student-athletes from across the country named to the
2015 Allstate NABC Good Works Team. One of the student-athletes
selected is Penn State Altoona senior forward
Joel Redfoot.
For the third year, this prestigious award pays tribute to
college basketball players at all levels for their impressive
commitment to giving back to their communities and positively
impacting the lives of those around them.
“I’m very grateful and honored to be recognized
with such a prestigious award, but at the end of the day, what is
more important to me are the experiences I’ve been privileged
to have and the connections I’ve made along the way,”
said Redfoot. “To be able to make any type of positive impact
on others is why I give back. I’m thankful to be in a
position that I can give back to people who might not be as
fortunate as I have been.”
The Allstate NABC Good Works Team is comprised of 10
student-athletes: five from NCAA Division I and five from NCAA
Divisions II, III, and the NAIA. Nominations were submitted by
sports information directors and coaches at colleges and
universities across the nation, and a record total of 158 nominees
from the NABC were announced in early December 2014.
Redfoot, who is in his third year with the Penn State Altoona
men's basketball team, has been a leader within the campus'
Student-Athlete Advisory Council. He has helped spearhead several
community service projects during his time with SAAC, including
successful volunteer efforts that have benefitted the Special
Olympics of Blair County, the Altoona Area School District's
Mountain Lion Backpack Program, local Toys for Tots collection
drives, and the Soles4Souls shoe collection.
Members of the Allstate NABC Good Works Team will be invited
by Allstate, an official corporate partner of the NCAA, to the 2015
NABC Convention and 2015 NCAA Men’s Final Four in
Indianapolis, where they will participate in a community project
benefitting the host city.
