The Tartans took a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition, claiming No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was unfinished with Carnegie Mellon leading 5-0. The Tartans won three of the six singles to halt the match and advance to the second round. Carnegie Mellon did not give up a set point in doubles and only one singles competition in the third spot. The Tartans posted wins at No. 6 singles, then No. 5 singles and finished with a victory at No. 5 singles.
The Lions made their sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and finished with a 10-6 overall record.
