PENN ST. BEHREND WOMEN TAKE EARLY LEAD IN AMCC SWIMMING AND DIVING CHAMPIOSHIPS

The Penn St. Behrend women's swimming and diving team hold an early lead after Day One of the 2015 AMCC Championships. The Lions stand 44 points in front of second place Cabrini College.
Penn St. Behrend was victorious in four of the six women's events after Day One. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of freshmen Emma Daghir, Maryn Horn, Gwen Lowery, and sophomore Mia Pietropola broke the AMCC meet and open record with a time of 1:40:41 in the finals.
Pietropola repeated as the 200 IM champion, while breaking the AMCC meet and open records, with a time of 2:10.31.
The Lions also saw a first place finish from their 400 yard medley relay team comprised of freshman Allie Schneider, Lowery, Daghir, and Pietropola, who finished in 4:07.01.
Behrend freshman diver Rachel Cotton was the individual AMCC champion on the 3-meter board competition with a final score of 390.40.
Cabrini College sophomore Christina Melchiorre's time of 24.53 in the 50 yard freestyle was good enough for first place and also an AMCC open and meet record.
Pitt-Bradford sophomore Elizabeth Prager was victorious in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:19.54.
Day Two of the 2015 AMCC Swimming and Diving Championships will continue tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals starting at 6 p.m.
