PENN ST. ALTOONA, D'YOUVILLE SCORE UPSET VICTORIES IN WOMEN'S SOCCER FIRST ROUND

The first round of the AMCC women's soccer tournament was full of upsets, as #5 D'Youville College deafeated #4 La Roche College, 1-0, and #6 Penn St. Altoona defeated #3 Pitt-Greensburg, 2-.1

D'Youville senior M Catie Giebner scored the game winning goal in the 63rd minute to lift D'Youville over the higher seeded La Roche. The goal came off a free kick from senior M Nicole LaVere that was misplayed by a Redhawk defender and Giebner was there to put the ball away in the pressure packed situation. Freshman GK Megan Dulniak recorded her 6th shutout of the season and second against La Roche.

Penn St. Altoona sophomore F Shoshana Mahoney broke a scoreless tie at 32:15 when she found the back of the net following a blocked shot inside the box. Shortly into the second half, junior F Brittany Allison made it 2-0 when she scored on a shot in the box at 54:32. Pitt-Greensburg made things interesting at 82:13, when freshman F Kayleen Schwegler scored on a shot from outside the box to cut Penn State Altoona's lead to 2-1. But the Lady Lions held on to secure the win, their first in the postseason since 2011.

D'Youville will travel to #1 Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday for a 2:00 p.m. game time, while Penn St. Altoona kicks off at 4:00 p.m. at #2 Penn St. Behrend. The championship game will take place on Saturday, November 7 at the highest remaining seed.
