Medaille College freshman forward Lachlan Wilkinson and Franciscan University junior forward Leo Herrmann have been named 2016 AMCC Men's Soccer Offensive Co-Players of the Year. In addition, Wilkinson has also been tabbed as the Newcomer of the Year.
Wilkinson scored a team and conference high nine goals in AMCC play while appearing and starting in all nine matches. He added four assists to lead the AMCC in points during conference play with 22. Wilkinson scored the game-winning goals against D'Youville College and Hilbert College, all while shooting on net at an impressive .500 clip.
Herrmann led the conference and team with 39 points during the regular season (overall games). The junior scored 17 goals and handed out five assists for the Barons. Herrmann became the fastest player in Baron history to hit the 100-point mark as he registered his 100th point on September 24, and now has 114 for his career. Herrmann led the conference with six game-winning goals among conference opponents, was fourth in goals (6) and third in points (17). The junior's standout play on the offensive end helped the Barons earn their first playoff spot in program history.
Defensive Player of the Year honors goes to Penn State Behrend defender Evan Augustine. Augustine is a three-time all conference selection, twice being named to the first team. The senior led a defense that allowed nine goals all season, with 12 team shutouts, and only allowing one team to score more than one goal against the Lions. In the other 18 games, the team trailed their opponent for a combined 40 minutes. Augustine is set to break the mark for most games played in Behrend history after the Lions' NCAA tournament game scheduled for this Saturday.
Medaille head coach Michael Blythe is the men's soccer coach of the year. After a fifth place conference finish in 2015, Blythe led the Mavs to a runner-up finish in the 2016 AMCC men's soccer championship tournament.
