    Five AMCC men's basketball student-athletes were recognized for their performance in the classroom on Thursday afternoon, when the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced its 2022-23 Honors Court class.

    The Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) around the AMCC have voted on and selected the 2023 FAR Award Winners. On the men's side is Hilbert College men's basketball player Zach Miller while Hilbert cross country/track and field runner and softball player Abigail Dent represents the women's side.

    The AMCC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament started out with a pair of upsets, as #5 Penn State Behrend earned the upset road victory over #4 Pitt-Greensburg (76-63), while #6 Pitt-Bradford upended #3 Hilbert College 80-79 on the Hawks' home court.

    With a 13-1 conference mark, La Roche University claimed the regular season championship and hosting rights to the 2023 AMCC men's basketball championship tournament.

    Hagwood finished the season dominating both ends of the court. In his last two games, he averaged 37.5 points and 17 rebounds, while shooting 50% from the field and 42% from three. The sophomore played 41 minutes per game and scored a career-high 51 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, while also adding six assists and four steals, in the Mounties' overtime loss to Hilbert on Saturday. It was his sixth double-double in AMCC play, bringing him to second in scoring and first in rebounding in the league. Earlier in the week, against Pitt-Greensburg, Hagwood scored 24 points, hauled in 15 rebounds, dished out four assists, and snagged a steal. For the week, Hagwood averaged 37.5 points, 17.0 rebounds,5.0 assists and 2.5 steals.

    The AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week will be a clash of the top two teams in the conference, both fighting for a regular season title and hosting rights in the upcoming AMCC championship tournament.

    Hagwood led the Mounties to a 1-1 week, including their first AMCC victory of the season. Over the week, he averaged 23.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, while also adding 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He capped the week off with a 36 point, 13 rebound, double-double performance, where he shot 50% from the field and went 13-for-14 from the free throw line. It was the most points scored in a game by a Mountie this season and is Hagwood's career-high. Hagwood currently ranks sixth in scoring and second in rebounding in the AMCC.

    Jones had a strong pair of games for the Lions in another 2-0 week of AMCC play for his team. Jones helped lead his team to an eight-game win streak and a tie for first place in conference standings. In Wednesday night's win at Mount Aloysius, he scored 15 points while adding five rebounds, three steals, one assist, and one block. On Saturday, in a victory at Alfred State, he recorded his fifth double-double of the year with a season-high 23 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with three steals and two assists. On the week, Jones averaged 19.0 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 steals per game, and 1.5 assists per game. He shot an impressive 80.0 percent from the floor, going 16-for-20 from the field, while also being 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

  • Tommy DiRienzo, Penn State Behrend, Men's Basketball

    DiRienzo averaged 26.0 points and 7.0 rebounds, shooting 61.3 percent from the floor in a 1-1 week for the Lions. In a loss against Alfred State, DiRienzo recorded 25 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists. In a win over Mount Aloysius on Saturday, he scored a season-high 27 points, grabbed six rebounds, and once again added three steals and two assists. DiRienzo drained seven three pointers on the week and went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe.

    Schneider had a huge week for Pitt-Bradford as the Panthers picked up a pair of AMCC victories. He averaged 28.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. Schneider shot 55.9% from the field on the week, including 44.4 from three, and added 14-of-17 from the line. He scored 31 with eight rebounds (three offensive) in the three-point win over Pitt-Greensburg, playing all 40 minutes. At Alfred State, Schneider scored 25 while recording nine rebounds, seven assists, and four steals.

    The Hilbert College men’s basketball team is eager to host undefeated La Roche University on Saturday, in the AMCC Game of the Week, as they look to rebound after suffering their first AMCC loss on Wednesday night in Erie.

    Darrell scored a season-high in points against Mount Aloysius, as he racked up 33 points on 12-for-15 shooting from the field. He followed that up at home on Saturday when he netted 30 points against Alfred State, giving him an overall total this past week of 63 points scored in two games. The senior shot 68.8% from field goal range overall, and on Saturday went 4-for-5 from long range. He averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals on the week as the Redhawks went 2-0 to stay undefeated (4-0) in conference play.

    The AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week features Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Bradford, both who enter the game with 1-1 conference records and sit in a four-way tie for third place with Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Greensburg. 
  • Jojo France, Pitt-Greensburg, Men's Basketball

    France led the way for the Bobcats on the offensive end, averaging 28 points per game. JoJo took over second place on the Pitt-Greensburg all-time scoring list with 1,550 career points on Saturday. France had a week-high 30 points in the Bobcat's first conference game against Hilbert. He then scored 26 points in Pitt-Greensburg's win over Alfred State. France played all but six minutes of the two games this week.

    The first AMCC Men's Basketball Game of the Week for the 2022-23 season features Pitt-Bradford hosting La Roche University. The Panthers enter conference play with a league-leading 6-5 overall record, while the Redhawks are right behind them with a 5-6 record.

    Bush led the Lions in scoring with a pair of 20-point efforts against strong non-conference opponents York (Pa.) and Oberlin. In the Lions' loss at York on Tuesday, December 20, the junior forward scored a season-high 29 points to go along with six rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block. Bush helped the Lions to a victory at Oberlin on Friday, December 30, scoring a team-high 23 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. In that two-game span, Bush averaged 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds per game, 1.5 assists per game, and 1.0 steal per game. He was impressive from the field, shooting 17-for-30 (56.7 percent) overall, including 10-for-16 (62.5 percent) from three-point range. 
  • Eddie Perez, Hilbert College, Men's Basketball
    December 19, 2022
    Perez posted his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds against Hiram College this past Friday. The Sophomore forward led the Hawks with four assists, two steals, and a block, as well as 8-for-9 from the foul line. 
  • Nathan Schneider, Pitt-Bradford, Men's Basketball
    December 12, 2022
    Schneider averaged 26.3 points per game, leading Pitt-Bradford to a 2-1 week. He shot 65.9% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line. He added 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. In the Panthers' road win at Juniata, Schneider scored 25 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field. He also had five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Against Medaille, he scored 24 on 11-for-13 shooting and had five rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
