The Hilbert College men’s basketball team is eager to host undefeated La Roche University on Saturday, in the AMCC Game of the Week, as they look to rebound after suffering their first AMCC loss on Wednesday night in Erie.

La Roche will be traveling to Hilbert to take on the Hawks for the first time this season. The Redhawks are the only remaining undefeated team in conference play, sitting at 5-0 at the top of conference standings. Senior guard Devon Darrell is a big part of the Redhawks success this season, as he averaged 31 points over two games last week, and for his efforts was named AMCC Player of the Week. Darrell averages 19.1 points per game, ranking him third in the conference in points per game. Senior guard/forward Joe Pipilo is also another bright star for the Redhawks. The veteran is averaging 13 points per game, shooting 40% from the three-point line, and is seeing about 28 minutes on the court. Senior Jordan Grayson is leading the forwards for La Roche, averaging just over 10 points a game and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Hilbert has four players hitting double-digit points on a nightly basis, led by sophomore guard Quran Briggs who tosses in 18.4 points per game. His fellow sophomore teammate in the backcourt, Shaheem Ellis, can light-it-up from downtown as he leads the team in three-point makes and assists, while chipping in 9.5 points per game. Fourth-year point guard Eric Jackson looks to quarterback the team as he adds 10.1 points off penetration to the hoop and foul line. Sophomore forward Edward Perez has come on strong lately earning his fourth double-double with a season average of 11.8 points and 7.1 rebound numbers, and sophomore forward Nevada Eldridge can be a fierce competitor in the paint with 12.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

These two teams faced off three times in the 2021-22 season: two in regular season play, and once in the AMCC Playoffs. La Roche was able to emerge victorious in two-out-of-three meetings. The Redhawks won 91-82 at Hilbert for their first meeting last season. Their second meeting of the season took place at La Roche, and the Redhawks fell in overtime with a final score of 88-85. The final time these two teams faced off was in the first round of AMCC playoffs and La Roche was able to emerge victorious once more with a final score of 89-71.
