
The Medaille College and Franciscan University men's basketball teams saw their seasons come to a close this evening as they both lost in the first round of the ECAC Tournament. Medaille fell to Marywood University 89-77, while Grove City College defeated Franciscan 73-60.
The Medaille College Men's Basketball team matched up with Marywood University in the First Round of the ECAC Postseason Tournament this evening.
The #2 seed Pacers (16-10) were a stiff test for the Mavs as they had a strong first half, building a ten-point lead (40-30) in the first stanza. The Pacers maintained that cushion for much of the second half, pulling out in front by as much as (15) but never letting Medaille get back to anything closer then nine points. They would finish the game with a twelve point cushion winning (89-77).
Maverick junior Jonathan Smith had a very strong night for the Mavs. Smith was 6-11 from the field for 15 points and he had 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass for the double-double. Senior Sean Wilson had a career-high 13 points in the final game of his career. Wilson was 4-6 from the field and 1-1 from long distance. Norman Hughes was the only other Maverick in double-figures as he finished with 11 points.
Medaille finishes the season with a (14-14) mark on the season. Marywood will advance to the Second Round which will be played at Hood College in Maryland.

Grove City stormed out to a 36-20 lead over Franciscan in the opening period. Franciscan started out on top, 11-5, before the Wolverines assembled a 31-9 blitz. A Grove City jumber at the 11:51 mark put Grove City ahead for good. Franciscan pulled to within 37-30 by halftime, however. Grove City led by as many as 13, 60-47, in the second half but Franciscan closed to within 66-60 with 1:43 left. A three-point play by the Wolverines, followed by two free throws in the final minute secured the victory for Grove City.
Joe Schriner led the Barons with 17 points, while John Noce and Sean Hickey added 12 a piece. Matt Trent hauled in 11 boards and chipped in with six points.
