La Roche College senior guard Zach Gould has been named the 2019 AMCC Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Gould led the Redhawks to a perfect 18-0 regular season record and back-to-back regular season titles. He was tops in the AMCC in three-pointers made with 61 and also in three point percentage, with 47.3%. He finished second in the league with 15.3 points per game and a 3.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, and fourth with a 84.9 free throw percentage. Gould was a four-year starter and 1,000 point scorer for the Redhawks.
Penn St. Altoona junior center Cameron Gardner-Nicholson is the AMCC Defensive Player of the Year. Gardner-Nicholson spent the 2019 season dominating the paint for the Lions, as his presence often forced opponents to avoid driving to the basket. The junior ranked first in the AMCC in blocks (71) and blocks per game (3.0) while being third in the conference in defensive rebounds (157). Among all NCAA Division III players, he finished the regular season seventh in blocks per game and eighth in total blocks while ranking 48th in rebounds per game, 54th in total rebounds, and 76th in defensive rebounds per game.
Newcomer of the Year honors goes to Mount Aloysius College freshman forward Carlos Palacio. Palacio led the Mounties in scoring with 14.5 points per game, and upped that average to 16.6 in conference play. He shot 46% from the field, including 36.6% from beyond the arc. He finished the season in the top 10 in the conference in scoring and three point field goals made.
La Roche head coach Hermie Carmichael picks up his third AMCC Coach of the Year honor and second in as many years. Carmichael led the Redhawks to a perfect 18-0 conference record during the regular season.
