AMCC 25th ANNIVERSARY THEN & NOW SERIES: KAYLEE GRASSMEYER, LA ROCHE UNIVERSITY
La Roche University softball gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dream of playing college softball ever since I began playing. I still remember the first time being out on the field standing in the pitchers circle getting to pitch my first game. The adrenaline rush and all the nerves and emotions you feel is something indescribable. Being a student-athlete is not always easy, as it was some of the most challenging days of my life. It took a lot of hard work and dedication. I was pushed beyond my limits to become my best self. Many life lessons are learned and can be grown from during the experience.  Being part of the La Roche softball team wasn't just being part of a team, it was like a second family.  It brought me my best friends, a support system I never knew I needed, lessons that have helped me become the person I am today, and endless memories that were made every game and practice and will last a lifetime. Looking back, from the laughs, cries, blood, sweat, and ripped pants I wouldn't change a thing -- being a student-athlete was one of the best decisions I've made. The experience and the game day feels are something I will never forget.

"Failing To Train Is Training To Fail" -- we wear this quote on the back of our shirts to remember that you only get what you work for.

After playing at La Roche, I knew I wanted to still be involved in the game. I couldn't' t just give up the game that has had such an impact on my life. When coach Gentile gave me the opportunity to come back and coach, I knew I couldn't pass it up. Being a coach that was a player, I can relate to and form strong relationships with the players. Watching them grow and succeed is one of the greatest feelings, along with knowing I have such an impact on them. I love being able to share my passion for the game with them. Coaching is a lot of challenging fun.

One thing I learned as a player that I tell the players now as a coach is don't take your time for granted. These are easily the worst and best time of your lives. Don't wish it away.
