PITT-GREENSBURG BASKETBALL HELPS PACK CHEMO COMFORT TOTES

This past Sunday afternoon, the Pitt-Greensburg men's and women's basketball teams came together and helped pack "chemo comfort totes."

Over 400 totes were packed with various items and will be distributed to all three Arnold Palmer Medical Facilities, as well as the new Allegheny Health Network Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital, which is scheduled to open later this month.

Holly Hallman, organizer of the program, created a Facebook page (Chemo Comfort Totes Project) to raise awareness for the project and gathered donations that went toward sponsoring the Totes. Each sponsor had a loved one's name engraved on a wooden tag that was attached to the bags. Kiski Area Volleyball Pink Night, Pitt-Greensburg Volleyball Dig for a Cure and Wendover Middle School, all provided large contributions towards the Totes. In total, over $12,450 was donated with funds remaining to be used on next year's project.

The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team helped transport all of the supplies from the Hallman Household to storage, then to the University for Sunday's packing. A number of the players also helped purchase the supplies at various local businesses.

This is the third year for the event, which was created after Craig and Holly (Hallman) came up with the idea with the goal of getting kids and young adults involved in doing kind things for others. Hallman then had her middle school students write personalized notes of hope which were placed in each tote. In total, 56 totes were sponsored, filled and delivered to the Arnold Palmer Pavilion at Mt. View.

Last year (2018), a total of 150 totes were sponsored and enough sponsorships were gathered to fill 415 in year three.
