The Hilbert College cross country program volunteered at a pair of events over the past two weekends, working the Lou Reuter Scholarship Run on October 20th in the town of Tonawanda and the Buffalo Runners Chestnut Ridge Challenge in Orchard Park on October 27th.
The proceeds from the October 20th race went directly to the Lou Reuter Scholarship Fund, which goes to a senior from Kenmore East High School where Coach Reuter was a teacher, coach and mentor for years. The scholarship awards a deserving senior who demonstrates community service, school spirit, good grades, and participation in school activities. The race is also a labor of love for former Hilbert cross country coach Geoff Brunger. The Hilbert runners were happy to volunteer their time to help Coach Brunger support a great cause.
The cross country program again offered their help and support on October 27th at the event at Chestnut Ridge Park. The event was held to raise awareness for the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy, whose goal is maintain the beauty and health of the park so that all may continue to enjoy this western New York gem. The team again served as traffic control to protect the safety of the runners participating in the event.
