The D'Youville College men's basketball team put on their annual Gold Game last Wednesday, January 24 to benefit childhood/pediatric cancer research.

This year, the team raised $150 for the Go 4 the Goal Foundation - an organization that aids children and families that are affected by pediatric cancer. The men showed their support by wearing gold laces on their shoes during their game against Penn State-Behrend.

Funds were raised by holding a 50/50 during the men's basketball game against the Lions and raffling off gold t-shirts. All of the proceeds went to the Go 4 the Goal Foundation.

The Go 4 the Goal Foundation was founded in 2006 following Richard Stefanacci's diagnosis with a rare type of bone cancer. Richard lost his battle with cancer before his 15th birthday, inspiring the foundation's beginnings. Several years later, Richard's cousin Blake was diagnosed with another rare form of cancer. However, Blake is fully healthy and has been a four-year survivor of cancer.

Head coach Earl Schunk and his team enjoys giving back to a good cause and helping out in whatever capacity they can.

"Our team loves this charity and really gets behind the fundraising effort," said Schunk. "All the guys look forward to this game every year and are happy to see the support from the college community as well."
