MOUNTIE SOCCER TEAMS UNDERGO COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORTS

The Mount Aloysius College men's and women's soccer teams were both active in the community this past weekend with two different service efforts on Saturday. While the Mountie women's team hosted a 3K Fun Run/Walk on the Mount Aloysius campus, the men's team ventured off campus to help with park cleanups in the area.

For the second consecutive year, the Mountie women teamed up with the MAC Student Veteran's Association and Mount Aloysius Professor Amber Lenhard in hosting a 3K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday morning. The Mounties collected throughout the week for a 50/50 raffle and spread the word to register for the run, which included over 40 runners from the Mount Aloysius community on Saturday'scourse. Over $500 was raised with the proceeds going towards Team Racing for Veterans (Team R4V). Team R4V is a non-profit organization that creates opportunities for wounded, ill and injured veterans by promoting awareness, supporting rehibilitation and empowering veterans to follow through on a path of healing.

The Mountie men's team joined the efforts of the Cambria City Playground Project as over 25 members of the team joined other Mount Aloysius students in cleaning up and restoring the Cambria City Playground. The cleanup was one part of Johnstown's Vision 2025 Youth Circle. The Mounties cleaned and painted playground equipment, worked on mulching and planting a garden and cleaned the grounds at two different sites of the playground.

"Both of these efforts were for really good causes and both of our teams were happy to get involved," Mount Aloysius Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach Matt Davis said. "Mount Aloysius is a designated Military Friendly institution so assisting veterans strikes close to home on our campus. Our men's team is also looking forward to continuing to help with kids in the region at our youth soccer clinic at the Ebensburg Memorial Fields on April 30th."
