GENEVA HIRES CURT CONSER TO BEGIN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM

Geneva College was recently announced as being the newest affiliate member in the AMCC for the sport of men's volleyball. The Golden Tornadoes have chosen a familiar face to be the groundbreaking coach for the newly established men's volleyball program, former Geneva women's volleyball coach Curt Conser.  Conser spent 16 years helping coach the Geneva women's volleyball team before departing two years ago to give more focus to his family and to his role as the Director of the Infinity Volleyball Club in Salem, Ohio.

Conser began at Geneva in 2000 as an assistant women's volleyball coach before eventually working his way into a co-head coaching position alongside current head women's volleyball coach, Wendy Smith.  During that time Geneva put together some of its strongest seasons, including Geneva's only Presidents' Athletic Conference championship in 2011.

"Geneva College Varsity Men's Volleyball has been a dream of mine for years," Conser said.  "I'm honored to be the person chosen to lead Geneva men's volleyball into this new era.  I spent 16 years with the women's program, and being back at Geneva on the men's side feels like a return home. I look forward to quickly building a competitive team, and I look forward to helping an ambitious group of young men reach their goals on and off the court."

Athletic Director Van Zanic is equally as thrilled to bring Conser back into the department.  "We could not be more excited about the addition of Curt to our athletic department," Zanic stated.  "He is the perfect choice to move our men's volleyball program forward and to begin the building process. Curt had great success at Geneva for many years with our women's program and he is very excited about the challenge ahead to do the same for our men's program. Curt has a great volleyball background and his level of knowledge of the sport and his familiarity with Geneva College and the Golden Tornadoes will be great assets as he builds a competitive program."

Conser will officially begin his role on June 1, but he will serve in a part time capacity for the next few months as he hits the recruiting trail and also works with the current club volleyball team this spring.
