  • AMCC ANNOUNCES WINTER SPORTSMANSHIP TEAMS

    All institution sport teams which compete for an AMCC championship may select one member from their team who displays good sportsmanship throughout the season to be a member of the All-AMCC Sportsmanship Team.

    Penn St. Behrend sophomore Mia Pietropola was named the AMCC Women's Swimmer of the Year, while Lion freshman Rachel Cotton was named the Diver of the Year, and Cabrini College's Casey Merrill was Newcomer of the Year.

    Pietropola broke nine records, while winning three individual titles and four relay crowns at the AMCC Championships. She repeated as champion in the 200 IM, 100 and 200 breaststroke. Pietropola was tied for the highest point winner at the meet.

    Cotton won each of the one-meter diving events against Pitt-Bradford and St. Vincent. Against the Panthers, she first tallied a 161.10 for five dives and then posted a score of 181.65 for six dives on the second chance at the one-meter board. In the first five dives vs. the Bobcats, she scored 159.70 and in the next six dives she tallied a 198.15.

    Pietropola won the 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM with times of 2:34.36 and 2:19.87, respectively, vs. St. Vincent. She also swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay vs. Pitt-Bradford and 200 free relay vs. St. Vincent.

    Melchiorre scored a win and set a new school record in the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 5:30.13. The sophomore also added wins in the 50 yard freestyle and 200 yard individual medley in 26.23 and 2:30.71, respectively.

    Despite the 154-92 loss to Widener on Saturday, Melchiorre found some individual success, placing first in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle in 2:04.18 and 5:36.14, respectively. Melchiorre also combined with teammates to capture a victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay, reaching the wall in 1:47.77.

    Penn St. Behrend sophomore Anna Rose Watterson was named ECAC South Swimmer of the Week for the week ending December 14, 2014.

    Watterson won two individual events and swam a leg on the record-breaking 800 free relay team. She had the final 200 meter stretch to help break the pool record in the relay. She also won the 1000 and 500 freestyle events.

    Penn St. Behrend sophomore Mia Pietropola and Cabrini senior Morgan Griffith were named ECAC South Co-Swimmers of the Week for the week ending December 7, 2014.

    Prager swam the first leg of the 800 free relay team that set a new school record by four seconds. The same group competed in the 200 free relay and set a new school record in that event as well. Prager also went on to break her old record in the 200 back and also set a new AMCC record in the process.

    Penn St. Behrend sophomore Mia Pietropola broke the school record in the 200 IM twice in one night to lead the Penn State Behrend women's swimming and diving team on the first day of the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational Friday night.

    Melchiorre won the 1,000 yard freestyle and set a new school record, with a final time of 11:27.71. The sophomore also came in first place in the 100 and 500 yard freestyles, reaching the wall in 56.25 and 5:39.84, respectively.

    Lowery led the Lions with three individiual wins against Chatham. She had her first win in the 100 backstroke (1:04.77), before collecting the victory in the 200 butterfly (2:33.23) and then the 200 IM (2:20.81).

    Pietropola won a pair of events for the Lions on Saturday. She swam a 1:10.80 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:33.83 in the 200 breaststroke for first place.
