Lions Shutout Barons In Season-Opening Victory

ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Behrend women's soccer team earned a 4-0 shutout victory over Franciscan to begin the 2024 season on the first day of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament Saturday evening.

* Senior Nicole Croushore (Smithton, PA/Yough) got the scoring started for Behrend in the ninth minute, sending a corner kick from Rachel Sickeri (DuBois, PA/DuBois) into the back of the net
* The Lions had several opportunities to add on to their lead in the first half with great chances off the foot of Trinity Prestash (Philipsburg, PA/West Branch) but she was turned away by Franciscan's goalkeeper Rebekka Dill
* A foul inside the box in the 73^rd minute led to Behrend's second goal of the game from a penalty kick by Maddie Haggerty (West Seneca, NY/Nardin Academy)
* Lizzie Hoff and Lauren Kiser notched two late goals in Saturday's contest to secure Behrend's 4-0 win
* Sickeri finished with two helpers for the Lions, while Marlene Andrade (Walnut Creek, CA/Clayton Valley Charter) tallied an assist
* Behrend outshot the Barons 36-3 with a team-high seven shots coming from Prestash
* Eva Dexter recorded two of the three shots for Franciscan
* In net, Riley Morningstar (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) made two saves in the shutout effort, while her counterpart Dill accumulated 18 stops
