Hildebrand Reaches 1,000 Career Kills; Lions Win a Pair

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's volleyball team picked up a pair of wins in a non-conference tri-match held at the Junker Center on Saturday. The Lions defeated St. Vincent 3-0 and Mount St. Joseph, 3-1.

Noteworthy: Senior outside hitter Dillon Hildebrand (Red Lion, PA/Red Lion) became the first person in program history to reach 1,000 career kills

Key Moments:

* The Lions held the Bearcats to just six kills in each of the sets
* Eight different players recorded a kill, led by Cody Schnur (Butler, PA/Butler) with seven kills
* Schnur hit .778 for the match, committing no errors on nine attempts
* Colin Dedert (Pittsburgh, PA/Plum) and Hildebrand each had six kills
* Dedert went 6-for-8 with one error for a .625 attack percentage
* Cody Geis (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) posted five blocks, while Josh Mathews (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a team-best six digs
* Diego Ortiz (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) dished out 16 assists

Key Moments:

* The Lions dropped the first set and went down 6-0 to start the second set
* Behrend used a 12-6 run to take a 18-16 lead and never trail again
* The second set was tied four times, including 24-all before Schnur tallied a service ace and an attack error by Mount St. Joseph tied the match at 1-all
* The Behrend Lions kept a steady lead in the third set and Hildebrand reached his 1,000 kill on an assist from Ortiz for a 15-7 lead
* Back-to-back kills from JP Goodsel (Corry, PA/Corry) and Hildebrand secured the win in the fourth set
* Schnur, Goodsel and Hildebrand each had double-digit kills
* Hildebrand led with 17, followed by Goodsel with 13 and Schnur with 12
* Adrian Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Wesleyan Academy) posted 16 digs and Ortiz had 32 assists and three aces
