REINHOLZ, BENDER HEADLINE 2016 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

Hilbert College senior Kylie Reinholz and Mount Aloysius College senior Dillon Bender have been selected as the recipients of the AMCC 2016 Faculty Athletics Representatives Award from among 20 outstanding student-athletes nominated.

Reinholz, a Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation major, was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society in 2015. She graduated with a 3.98 GPA and earned a 4.0 four times in six semesters. She is enrolled in Hilbert's "4+1" Forensic Science Masters Program, which involves attending graduate classes on Saturdays. She still managed to compete in more than 50% of her team's races in 2015 and made the all-conference team as one of the league's top 12 runners. She was a recipient of the 2016 Hilbert College McGrath Award for her outstanding effort in the classroom and around the cross country trails throughout her career at Hilbert. Reinholz was named the 2013 AMCC Rookie of the Year and was also the top finisher in the 2014 AMCC championship race, becoming the first Hilbert athlete to win a conference individual title. Reinholz was named the 2014 AMCC Runner of the Year. Reinholz graduated with her bachelor's degree this spring and will continue her graduate studies in the fall, pursuing a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration.

Bender, a History/Political Science major with a minor in business administration, graduated in May with a 3.98 GPA.  He was a member of the  AMCC all-academic team, National Association of Basketball Coaches honors court, Chi Alpha Sigma honors society, and a member of the Delta Epsilon Sigma honor society. Additionally, Bender was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team and was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team. He was also a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, which is awarded to an outstanding NCAA Division III men’s and women’s basketball player who excels on the court, in the classroom, and in the community. Bender was named the 2016 Mount Aloysius College Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. On the basketball court, Bender was an AMCC all-conference third team selection and was also named to the all-sportsmanship team. He finished his career as the eighth all-time leading scorer in Mountie history with 1,185 points. He is the all-time three point field goal leader for Mountie basketball with 238 made three pointers, as well as the all-time free throw percentage leader, shooting 83% for his career. Bender was the staff writer for the school newspaper and helped Jackson Elementary School revive an after school intramural program that was discontinued due to budget cuts. For his outstanding acheivements in the classroom, around the community, and on the basketball court, Bender was selected as the student commencement speaker at graduation.

FEMALE BEST OF THE REST: D'Youville JR cross country runner Katelyn Buck is a Dietetics major with a 3.81 GPA, she is the President for SAAC and Student Affairs and was named the 2015-16 DYC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year...Franciscan SR lacrosse player Tracy McClelland earned a 3.67 GPA as an English major, and received the Kuzma Cup Award as the university's outstanding female athlete...La Roche SR volleyball player Hannah Bevington, a Pre-K Education major with a track in special education, graduated with a 3.9 GPA, she was on the Dean's List all four years and was in the top five statistically on the team in all relevant categories....Medaille GR softball player Mary Price is earning her Master's Degree in Mental Health, boasting a 4.0 GPA and is the recipient of numerous institutional academic and athletic awards...Mount Aloysius SR cross country runner Bridgit Yothers graduated with a 3.91 GPA, earning a bachelor's degree in Biology in just three years, she was a Mercy Presidental Scholar and was the 2016 Mount Aloysius Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, she will be continuing her studies in a Masters on Physician program in the fall...PS-Altoona JR cross country runner Makayla Pearce is a Childhood and Early Adolescent Education major, with a minor in Special Education, she carries a 3.99 GPA and is a two-time recipient of the Fredina Ingold Award for Academic Excellence for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA while in-season, and was named the 2016 PS-Altoona Female Scholar Athlete of the Year; Pearce is a three-time AMCC all-conference performer and holds the program's fastest time for a 5K...PS-Behrend SR cross country and track runner Abby Gilmore, a Plastics Engineering major with a 3.92 GPA, was a four-time AMCC all-academic team member and recipient of the 2015-16 John Zahniser Award, presented annually to the male and female student-athletes who have the best combined academic and athletic achievements, she was an all-conference performer in the 5000 meters...Pitt-Bradford SR volleyball player Kaitlin McCann graduated in three years with a 4.0 GPA in Accounting and Finance, earning numerous top institutional academic awards, she was a three-time member of the AMCC all-academic team, a two-time recipient of the UPB Female Scholar Athlete Award, and dedicated countless hours to several volunteer programs...Pitt-Greensburg SR soccer player Courtney Carroll graduated summa cum laude with a 3.774 GPA with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry, she was a four-time member of the AMCC all-academic team and is a member of numerous national honor societies; Carroll was a two-time recipient of the UPG Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Award, and on the soccer field was a three-time All-AMCC selection and ranks in the top four in three different statistical categories.

MALE BEST OF THE REST: D'Youville SR basketball player Jonathon Gemerek graduated with a 3.804 GPA with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and a master's degree in International Business, he was the 2015-16 DYC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year and a four-time member of the AMCC all-academic team while also being named the 2016 team MVP...Franciscan SR cross country runner John Redmond finished with a 3.69 GPA as a computer science major, earning all-conference honors as a sophomore, and received the Kuzma Cup Award as the university's outstanding male athlete...Hilbert SR baseball player Tyler Shaw graduated with a 3.69 GPA and a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, he was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and is a four-time member of the AMCC all-academic team, he helped lead the Hawks to their first AMCC post-season tournament and was awarded the 2016 McGrath Award for his outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the baseball diamond...La Roche SR baseball player Colin Williamson achieved a 3.65 GPA as a double major, earning degrees in Marketing and Management, while being awarded the Harry G. Austin Scholar Athlete Award; Williamon finished his career as the all-time hits leader and was in the top five in more than 10 statistical categories this season...Medaille GR baseball player TJ Serba earned a 3.94 GPA in the Master of Arts in Psychology program and was awarded multiple top academic honors, including being named to the Dean's List every semester and is a four-time AMCC Peak Performer; Serba finished his baseball career in the top 10 of 10 different statistical categories...PS-Altoona SR volleyball player Zackary Graham graduated with a 3.74 GPA in Psychology, was named PSA's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, and is a member of mulitple national honor societies; athletically, Graham is the Lions' all-time leader in solo blocks, block assists, and total blocks, and this year he helped his team to its best-ever record and first-ever post-season berth. Graham also spent time volunteering with the Special Olympics and tutoring on campus and has been accepted into Arizona State University's Doctorate of Psychology program...PS-Behrend SR soccer player Joel Solomon graduated with a 4.0 GPA with a major in Physics and a minor in Math, he was on the Dean's List all eight semesters and was a member of the AMCC all-academic team all four years, he was most recently presented with the John Zahniser Award - presented annually to the male and female student-athletes who have the best combined academic and athletic achievements; Solomon was a member of the 2013 & 2014 AMCC championship teams...Pitt-Bradford SR soccer player Brian McCoy achieved a 3.392 as a double major, earning degrees in Business Management and Marketing, he was a member of the Dean's List and was named UPB's 2016 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year; McCoy was a three year starter and two-time captain for the men's soccer team and also dedicated over 35 hours per week as a volunteer at Holiday Valley...Pitt-Greensburg SR baseball player Matthew Moyer graduated summa cum laude with a 3.87 GPA, a major in Management-Accounting and a minor in Actuarial Sciences, he was named to the Dean's List all eight semesters, is a four-year member of the AMCC all-academic team, and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma and Phi Eta Sigma national honor societies; Moyer was UPG's Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, a two-time All-AMCC performer on the baseball field, and became the first player in Bobcat history to play all nine positions during his career. Moyer made four straight trips to the AMCC championships, setting the school record for conference wins, the single season school record for victories, and made the first appearance in the AMCC championship game in program history.
