  • THREE AMCC BASEBALL TEAMS HONORED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

    The Hilbert College, Mount Aloysius College, and Penn State Behrend baseball teams have been awarded the 2022-23 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for their excellence in the classroom.
  • UPG'S DOMER AND SOLINSKI EARN ALL-ECAC HONORS

    The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2023 Division III Baseball All-ECAC Team and major award winners. Pitt-Greensburg freshman outfielder James Domer was voted ECAC Rookie of the Year and voted All-ECAC, while Bobcat freshman designated hitter Colin Solinski also picks up ALL-ECAC honors.
  • ALFRED STATE'S SERCE, HILBERT'S EVANS EARN ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

    D3baseball.com announced its All-America team this week and two AMCC baseball players were honored. Alfred State College senior 1B Nick Serce and Hilbert College junior OF Thomas Evans were both recognized on the fifth team.

    The 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all 10 regions. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

    The Penn State Altoona baseball team held a 4-3 lead going into the ninth inning of Saturday’s NCAA Division III Tournament matchup with St. John Fisher University, but the Cardinals scored seven runs to surge ahead and eliminate the Lions by a final score of 10-4.

  • BEHREND BASEBALL SPLITS ALVERNIA IN ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

    Penn State Behrend and Alvernia University split a nine-inning doubleheader in the 2023 ECAC Division III Baseball Championship, forcing a final game three on Friday. The Lions won game one, 6-1 and fell behind 9-3 in game two.
  • AMCC ANNOUNCES BASEBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

    Alfred State College senior 1B Nick Serce has been named the 2023 AMCC Player of the Year. Serce hit .408 this season with a slugging percentage of .904 and finished the regular season third in the nation for homeruns with 17.

    The Penn State Behrend baseball team will head to Reading, Pennsylvania on Wednesday for a three game-series with Alvernia for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship beginning on Thursday.

    The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee announced its field of 60 teams that will compete in the 2023 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship tournament on Monday afternoon, and the Penn State Altoona baseball team learned that it will travel to Johns Hopkins University later this week to compete in the Baltimore, Maryland regional bracket.

    Hediger helped propel Hilbert to advance to their first appearance in the Championship Round of the AMCC Baseball tournament by picking up a win on the mound in the First Round on Saturday afternoon. Hediger went seven innings strong, allowing two earned runs and striking out three to earn his fifth win of the season over Pitt-Greensburg in the first round of the AMCC Tournament on Saturday.

    Whelan was outstanding in the Hawks' first round sweep over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday afternoon. After registering a three-hit performance in game one, Whelan was even better in game two recording a five-hit game while belting a pair of home runs to send the Hawks to the AMCC Championship next weekend. Whelan finished the day with eight hits, seven RBI, four runs scored, a walk, hit by pitch and a stolen base. He batted .727 with a 1.273 slugging percentage and an impressive 1.987 OPS.
  • PENN STATE ALTOONA, HILBERT EARN UPSET VICTORIES & ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

    #5 Hilbert College and #6 Penn State Altoona each earned upset victories in the First Round of the AMCC Baseball Championship Tournament to advance to the final four teams in the Championship Round hosted by Alfred State College May 11-13.

    White helped the Pioneers clinch first place in AMCC standings as he pitched a complete game nine inning shutout against Penn State Behrend. White tallied nine strikeouts and allowed only eight hits on one walk.

    Ionadi hit .526 in a 4-1 week for the Lions, going 10-for-19 with 12 RBI, two doubles and two home runs. The freshman also stole two bases and scored nine runs of his own. Ionadi had a standout performance against first place Alfred State, as he recorded two home runs for seven RBI in the 10-3 win over the Pioneers. He had multiple hits in four of the five games.

    Hasse had a strong week, helping the Mounties to both of their wins against Pitt-Greensburg. In Game One, he came on in relief and tossed 1.1 innings, tallying two strikeouts, and picking up the save. In Game Two, he earned the victory, again in relief, going 1.2 scoreless innings. He issued two walks and allowed two hits, but stranded them all and earned the win in the much-needed AMCC sweep. For the week, Hasse earned a win and a save while striking out four and recording a 0.0 ERA.

    Evans was electric yet again this past week for Hilbert, hitting home runs in three of the Hawks' four games to help lift Hilbert to a 3-1 record. On Wednesday afternoon, Evans hit a pair of home runs at Alfred State. Then, he followed it up with a pair of home runs against Penn State Altoona, including a walk-off two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth of game two. After trailing 15-6 by the middle of the ninth, Hilbert rallied for the 16-15 win off Thomas' home run. Evans finished the week batting .571 with an astounding 1.643 slugging percentage and 2.310 OPS. The junior finished the week with eight hits including three doubles and four home runs. Evans scored nine runs, added seven RBI, drew a pair of walks and stole a base as well. Defensively, he posted a 1.000 fielding percentage, making 16 putouts over 16 total chances. Evans now leads the AMCC in runs scored (45), triples (5), extra base hits (30) and stolen bases (12).

    The AMCC Baseball Games of the Week feature Penn State Altoona and Hilbert College, two teams with identical 5-5 records in conference play and tied for fourth place in the AMCC.

    Walsh picked up another pair of saves this past week in wins over Fredonia State and La Roche to add to his AMCC-lead with eight saves on the season. The right-hander finished the week with 3.1 innings pitched while allowing his first earned run over his last 14 appearances and struck out three. Walsh is currently in a tie for the most saves in the nation and is now just one save away from the AMCC single season record for saves while posting a 0.77 ERA over 15 appearances this spring.

    Serce hit four home runs on the week, while driving in eight runs and scoring seven of his own as the Pioneers went 2-2 on the week, including 2-0 in conference play. Serce connected on two home runs in game two against Pitt-Greensburg and finished game two 4-for-4 with five RBI. Serce also hit two homeruns earlier in the week against RIT. For the week, Serce hit .615 (8-for-13) with a SLG of 1.692.
