
The Penn State Behrend baseball team defeated Alvernia University to capture the 2023 ECAC Division III Baseball Championship with a 6-4 victory on Friday afternoon.
It marks the Lions sixth ECAC Championship and first since 2015. Silvio Ionadi smacked a triple with two outs in the top of the fourth to score Zac Bogats and also add a run on the same play with an error by the shortstop to give Behrend the lead for good. With a 4-3 lead, the Lions added two more runs in the fifth for a three-run advantage. Alvernia tallied the final run in the bottom of the fifth frame for 6-4 decision. Colin Harger went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base in his final collegiate baseball game. Harger had an RBI single to center field in the second and a two-RBI single to left center in the fifth to help the Lions grab the lead and then stay there. Ryan Meneskie also tallied three hits and scored two runs. Isaac Stouffer had two hits, including the lone double.
On the mound, Ethan Tinker pitched the first three innings before giving way to Evan Bromely for the win. Bromley allowed three hits and one run for his sixth win.
Behrend finished the season with a 22-19 record
