PENN STATE ALTOONA CAPTURES BASEBALL TITLE, CONFERENCE AQ

Penn State Altoona is the 2023 baseball champion, the only #6 seed to win in AMCC baseball history.

The Lions (20-25) won all three tournament games, including the title game on Saturday, 14-5 over #5 Hilbert College, and will represent the conference at the NCAA Div. III tournament.

This year's tournament marks the first time that the two lowest seeds advanced to the championship game.  This is Penn State Altoona's third crown, and their second trip to the NCAA tournament.  The last time was in 2011.

The Lions used five different pitchers to secure the championship game, with Cameron Dubbs earning the win.  They got standout performances from SS Corey Chamberlain (3-5, 1 RBI, 1 run), 1B Jonathan Rauch (2-5, 2 RBI, 3 runs) and C Tim Richard (1 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBI) to fuel the offense.  Hilbert DH Jack Duffek (2-4, 2 RBI, 1 run) and 1B Patrick Whelan (2-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs) put in strong efforts for the Hawks.

The NCAA tournament field will be announced on Monday.
