Lions Beat Behrend for Second AMCC Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team got back to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions posted a 5-2 victory over league opponent Penn State Behrend at the Gorilla House Gym.

Behrend (5-7, 1-1 AMCC) nabbed the day's first point, winning the three doubles matches by scores of 6-2, 6-3, and 7-6 (7-5). But Penn State Altoona (6-1, 2-0 AMCC) surged to victory during singles play, when the Lions won five out of six to defeat Behrend by three points on the day.

Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) recorded his fifth win of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph in the No. 1 singles match, and Andrew Chronister (York, PA/Dallastown) moved his singles record to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford) got his fifth win of the season after prevailing 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 3 match, and Jackson Newell (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) had the match-clinching win in the No. 4 spot, where he defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-4 for his team-best sixth singles victory of the season. Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata) rounded out the wins with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over his opponent in the No. 6 match, representing his second victory of the season.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis completes its season series with Behrend next Saturday, March 29, when the Lions will travel to Erie for an AMCC match starting at 6 p.m.
