Men’s Volleyball Drops Matches With Lancaster Bible, Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. – Penn State Altoona men's volleyball competed in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Marymount University's Converse Family Fieldhouse, and the Lions were handed a pair of 3-1 losses to Lancaster Bible College and Marymount.

Match One: Lancaster Bible 3, Penn State Altoona 1

The Lions (1-4) went up against former North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Lancaster Bible (5-0) in their first match of the day. Lancaster Bible, who was receiving votes in the most recent NCAA Division III Top 15 poll, prevailed in four sets by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, and 25-18.

Tyler Sheaffer (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) put up team-highs with 20 assists and two service aces, tied for the team lead in kills with eight, and also accumulated three digs and two block assists. Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) also had eight kills to go along with 13 assists, four digs, and one block assist, and Nikolas Ferraro (Toms River, NJ/Donovan Catholic) also posted eight kills with two digs and one block assist.

Nathaniel Reinert (State College, PA/State College) added seven kills, five digs, and one block assist, and Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) totaled eight digs, six kills, one block assist, and one ace.

Mirko Pandini (Milan, Italy/Greater Latrobe) finished with four block assists and two solo blocks to go along with four kills. Pandini's total of six blocks is tied for the eighth-most in a four-set match in Lions volleyball history.

Matthew Vandeveire (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) led all players in the match with 17 digs, his highest dig total of the young season.

Match Two: Marymount 3, Penn State Altoona 1

Penn State Altoona finished its day against the host school of the tri-match, Marymount (5-4), which defeated the Lions in four sets by scores of 25-15, 20-25, 25-17, and 25-13.

Perehinec posted a team-high 10 kills for the Lions, his highest total of kills this season to date, while also finishing with four digs and one solo block.

Beaver tied for the team lead in assists with 12 and service aces with one, and he also led the Lions in digs with 10 and blocks with two solos and two block assists. Additionally, he chipped in six kills.

Sheaffer tied Beaver for the most assists on the team during the match, and he added five kills, five digs, one solo block, and one block assist.

Vandeveire recorded seven digs, Pandini had one solo block and two kills, and Daniel Jordan (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) had one block assist. Eric Cassaday (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) accounted for one service ace.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball returns home for its next match, which is set for Thursday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Misericordia University.
