EBENSBURG, Pa. – No. 6 seed Penn State Altoona women's tennis pulled out a tight win in its first round Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament match on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 3 seed Mount Aloysius College 5-4 at the Ebensburg Tennis Center.

After Mount Aloysius (7-6, 6-2 AMCC) prevailed by a 5-4 margin over the Lady Lions during the regular season, Penn State Altoona (7-8, 4-4 AMCC) exacted its revenge in Saturday's playoff match, winning by the same score to move on in the tournament.

With the victory, Penn State Altoona will advance to the AMCC Tournament semifinal round next Saturday, October 19 to face No. 2 seed Medaille College. That match is slated to begin after the completion of that day's first semifinal match, which will start at 3:00 p.m.

The semifinal winners will meet for the AMCC Championship the next day, Sunday, October 20. Both the semifinal and championship rounds will be hosted at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie.

Penn State Altoona started Saturday's match by winning two out of three in doubles to secure a 2-1 lead.

In No. 2 doubles, the duo of Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) picked up their team-leading 10th doubles win together this season by overpowering their opponents 8-1. With 10 doubles wins this season, Acker and Girol are both tied for the second-most doubles victories in a single season in program history.

In No. 3 doubles, Grace Butz (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg)/Katie Kruza (York, PA/Central York) came together for an 8-5 victory.

Mount Aloysius and Penn State Altoona split singles play, which included three matches that went into tiebreakers – two of which were won by the Lady Lions.

Girol notched her team-high 11th singles win of the season with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 decision over her opponent in the No. 4 match. Girol's total of 11 singles wins this year is tied for the second-most in a single season in Penn State Altoona women's tennis history.

Alivia Serenita (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles match. Butz provided the match-winning point by pulling out a 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 victory in No. 6 singles, helping to send Penn State Altoona to the AMCC semifinals.
