Tigers Drop Two To Open The Weekend

Amherst, NY - The Wittenberg University men's volleyball team got back to action on Friday night, taking on St. John Fisher University and Daemen College. The Tigers dropped both matches on the night, falling to St. John Fisher in the first match 3-1 [25-16, 25-14, 24-26, 25-19]. Wittenberg returned to action later in the evening taking on host Daemen, falling to the host in another tough 3-1 battle [25-23, 23-25, 25-14, 25-18]. The Tigers tallied 77 kills through the two matches on the night. The Red and White posted a kill marker of .129 in the first match against St. John Fisher. Wittenberg followed up with a .143 kill percentage against host Daemen to close out the evening.

 

St. John Fisher Match Breakdown

Wittenberg was led by Russell Burke to start the night, putting down eight kills on 22 total attacks, adding three digs. Wittenberg struggled to find their rhythm through the early going before taking the third set from St. John Fisher in a tight 26-24 battle. Wittenberg took an early 4-1 advantage in the third set. The two sides would trade points, as the score showed tied at 9-9, 18-18 and 21-21 before the Tigers took the final points at 26-24. Wittenberg posted their best mark of the night in the third set, hitting .524 as a team with 14 kills as a team on 21 swings. James Trowbridge added six kills on 12 attack attempts, finishing the night with a .417 attack percentage.

 

Daemen Match Breakdown

Noah Wissel tallied 35 of Wittenberg's 38 assists in the second match of the night. Wittenberg put up a tough fight, after dropping the first set 25-23, the Tigers took set two 25-23. The Tigers put together a .538 hitting percentage through the second set, putting down 18 kills on 26 attacks with just four errors. Collin Buelow led the Tiger attack against Daemen with 13 kills on 29 swings. Jackson Tyler added double-digit kills (10) for the Tigers in the final match of the evening for the Red and White.
