Women’s Soccer Ties Penn College 1-1

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team played to its third tie of the season on Wednesday evening, when the Lions' non-conference game against Penn College ended in a 1-1 draw at Spring Run Stadium.

Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) scored her second goal of the season for Penn State Altoona (1-3-3), with KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) notching her first point of the 2022 campaign with an assist.

Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) made her seventh start between the pipes for the Lions and made five saves.

Penn State Altoona got on the board late in the first half to go into the intermission with a lead. After a throw-in from the right sideline, Wolfe dribbled the ball toward the end line and sent a pass to the front of the goal, where Smith headed it past the keeper at 37:41 to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage.

But Penn College (1-5-1) evened the score less than two minutes into the second half. Sara Darlington's free kick from outside the left corner of the box found Brooke Klinger, who headed the ball into the right side of the goal at 46:44 to knot the score at 1-1.

The teams exchanged several scoring opportunities the rest of the way, but neither squad was able to come up with the go-ahead goal, and the Lions and Wildcats settled for the tie.

Penn State Altoona finished the game with shooting advantages over Penn College in shots attempted (15-10) and shots on goal (9-6), while the Wildcats held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Smith led all players in the game with four shots on goal, while Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) recorded two shots on goal. Dee Dee Abbott (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) and Wolfe each attempted three shots with one shot on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer will wrap up its September schedule with one more home game before playing its next three on the road. The Lions will host non-conference opponent Alfred University next Wednesday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m.
