  • PENN STATE ALTOONA, BEHREND SWIMMING & DIVING NAMED SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA TEAMS

    The Penn State Altoona and Penn State Behrend men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named a 2019-20 Division III Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), on Tuesday.

    Penn State Altoona freshman Grace Dangelo made a statement in the AMCC during her rookie campaign, as she led all women's swimmers in points won during the four-day AMCC conference championship, then was awarded the AMCC's Women's Swimmer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors at the conclusion of the meet.

    Langerman won the AMCC title with victories on the 1m and 3m boards. She scored 274.25 on the 1m board and 274.90 on the 3m board. She was 3rd overall in the meet on both boards.

    Dangelo took AMCC Women's Swimmer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors by the end of this week's AMCC Championships. She had a stellar week, highlighted by being involved in setting five new records for the Penn State Altoona women's swimming program. Individually, she set new team records in the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:11.19), 200 Yard I.M. (2:11.92), and 400 Yard I.M. (4:39.10), with her times in the 200 Yard Butterfly and 400 Yard I.M. also being AMCC-wide records in those events. Dangelo was also part of team record-setting times in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:43.48) and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:49.06).

    After the second day and 40 events of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championship meet, Nazareth College has increased their lead in the overall and Empire 8 standings for both the men’s and women’s teams while Penn State Behrend has increased its lead on the men’s side, but has seen Alfred State College creep to within 10 points on the women’s side.

    The 2020 Allegheny-Empire Swimming & Diving Championship will take place at Webster High School and will be hosted by Hartwick College. The four-day event will begin on Wednesday, February 19 and run through Saturday, February 22.

  • Colleen Farabaugh, Franciscan University, Women's Swimming

    Farabuagh started off her strong day on Saturday with a second place finish in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:22.40. Farabaugh then earned Franciscan's first wins in back to back events. She won the 100 yard backstroke, in a very close race, with a time of 1:06.40. She followed that up by winning the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:43.95.

    Dangelo recorded each of the Lady Lions' three first place finishes in Saturday's tri-meet with Hood and Bryn Mawr, including setting her sixth new team record of the season. Dangelo won the first individual swim of the women's meet, the 400 Yard IM, by clocking in at 4:46.32. Several events later, she placed first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:00.66. Dangelo's new team record came in the 50 Yard Butterfly, in which she recorded a time of 27.46 to come in first place. Her time bested the previous Penn State Altoona women's swimming record of 28.19, set by former swimmer Ashley Nero on February 12, 2015.
  • Colleen Farabaugh, Franciscan University, Women's Swimming

    Farabaugh helped lead the Lady Barons to their best swim meet of the season as they beat Washington and Jefferson and avenged an earlier loss to Hiram. Farabaugh led the way once again by earning three 1st place finishes. In the first event of the day she helped the 200 Yard medley relay team win with a time of 2:02.72, nearly eight seconds quicker then second place. She then displayed her insurance as she swam while also breaking her school record in the 1000 yards with a time of 11:35.37. She then swam to another first in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:21.63.

    Dangelo tallied three individual first place finishes in the Lady Lions' 76-40 win at home over non-conference opponent Bethany on Saturday, including setting a new women's swim team record for the fourth time this season. Dangelo took first place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:11.46, which bested the previous Penn State Altoona women's swimming program record of 11:30.04. She also won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.94, and she prevailed in the 100 Yard Backstroke by clocking in at 1:02.84.

    Dangelo posted three individual first place finishes, including setting one new team record, along with one relay first place during Saturday's home loss to AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend. She won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.98, and she took first place in the 200 Yard Breaststroke by clocking in at 2:34.73. In the 400 Yard IM, Dangelo set a new women's swimming team record by posting a time of 4:43.67 to place first. Dangelo helped her team win the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, as she and her teammates combined for a time of 1:49.84 to take first.

    Dangelo had another stellar showing for the Lady Lions during the three-day Oberlin College Invitational, accounting for all 79 of her team's points in the meet and setting two new Penn State Altoona women's swimming records and one AMCC women's swimming record. Dangelo took first place in the "A" final for the 200 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 2:12.32 to secure 32 points and set new records in that event for both the Penn State Altoona women's swimming program and the AMCC as a conference. Dangelo also set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record in the 200 Yard IM, during which she clocked in a 2:12.32 to break her own team record and take third place with 27 points. Dangelo capped off her weekend by winning the "B" final in the 100 Yard Butterfly, placing ninth overall with a time of 59.67 to score 20 points.

    Heisey recorded three of her team's seven first place finishes in a close loss to AMCC opponent Alfred State on Saturday afternoon. Heisey's first win of the day came in the 50 Yard Freestyle, when she posted a time of 26.48. She won the very next event, the 100 Yard Freestyle, by finishing in 59.53. Later in the meet, the rookie took first in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 29.77.

    Dangelo notched two more individual first place finishes for the Lady Lions in a tri-meet with non-conference opponent Juniata and Division II foe California University of PA on Friday evening. The freshman won the 200 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:15.93, and she later took first in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke by clocking in at 1:10.32.

    Butler was victorious in both diving events at Chatham University, claiming the one-meter and three-meter boards with a 167.60 score and a 178.90 score, respectively.

    Heisey had two of the Lady Lions' six total first place finishes in the team's 74-61 win at AMCC opponent Franciscan on Saturday. She won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 27.91, and she later took first in the 100 Yard Freestyle by clocking in at 1:00.98.

    Dangelo posted two individual first place finishes and one relay first place finish in her team's split with AMCC opponents Pitt-Bradford and SUNY Delhi on Saturday, including setting a new team record in an individual swim. Dangelo posted a team record-breaking time of 2:13.89 in the 200 Yard IM to win that event, and she also took first in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 56.56. She was later part of the squad that won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a total time of 4:08.62.

    Stevens won both the 1m and 3m diving competitions to lead the way in Alfred State’s opening meet vs. Behrend. She scored a 166.75 in the 1m and 150.85 in the 3m.
  • Marcella Puglia, Penn State Behrend, Women's Swimming

    Puglia led the Behrend Lions past Alfred State with three individual wins and one relay victory on Saturday. She won the 1000 freestyle (11:42.43), the 200 butterfly (2:38.20) and 500 freestyle (5:41.90), while swimming on the 200 medley relay that won with a time of 2:05.66.
